Of course, this is just a blog post by a gaming company for their gamer audience, but lots of this stuff is downright dishonest. For example: > Now, while most players might find the idea of a corrupted Windows installation objectionable

> Right, so my point is that hacking everyone playing the CTF or the infrastructure is similar to running rm. It’s really not. rm is destructive, hacking competitors or infra to collect flags isn’t.

rming the CTF infra spoils the enjoyment of everyone else, winning because you’re the best and showed up with a cool exploit chain isn’t spoiling anything for anyone.

The whole point of Soho house was to be a place for people working in creative industries. Now that everyone can get in, they’re just boring restaurants with mediocre-at-best food.

Soho House is just silly now, I literally know of law firms handing memberships out as an employment perk. So much for being a cool place for creative folks, now they just let everybody in. Also, at least in London the clubs simply suck.

This really has nothing to do with cryptocurrency though. This is just a classic brokerage scam, no different than the countless forex scams or Israeli binary options. This is a common scam that’s not at all exclusive to “exotic investments

How do you propose that this ages old scam could be “solved”? The “bad actors” are based overseas, largely out of reach of any realistic enforcement action. No amount of financial education will save these idiots. Perhaps the only realistic

I’m not kidding. You’re putting way too much faith in the article, most swatting calls are not spoofed. > I can’t call the cops from my phone and say I’m XYZ and have killed my girlfriend and am going to kill more people You totally can.

For what it’s worth, a lot of vehicles marked “organ transport” are just people trying to avoid speeding tickets and aggressive behavior from other drivers.

These attacks work against defenders that can’t be bothered to implement WW2 era defences. These kinds of “attacks” have been well understood for a good 70 years now. It’s simply restating the obvious. Nothing has changed, unshielded electr

Yes, but phone number spoofing is not an important part of this story in any way.

Spoofing calls has literally nothing to do with swatting. The cops do not care which number the call comes from.

It’s really not. SWATting has nothing to do with spoofing numbers. You can call from google voice or skype and the cops will take it just as seriously.

Callers need to exercise a fairly high level OPSEC to maintain anonymity. If you aren’t using some VOIP service, there’s a good chance your call will be traced and the cops will be at your door anyway.
