Do you have any evidence that editorial independence even exists in the face of a complete capital controlled environment? Sinclair made a blunder and showed the world that there was no independence, at least in their company. It was even s

You don't think it already isn't purchased and hasn't been for a very long time? There are only a handful of media companies, at least in the USA.

Even after reading the previous comments in this thread? I'm really not seeing any benefit, just a shifting of company shares and maybe the benefit of all transactions publicly available on the blockchain, but some anonymity would make

I have no issues with it. Macs may have a better trackpad, but there's absoultely nothing wrong with it. I'm using Arch w/i3 and use whatever stock settings there are.

>and that you should always comply with orders. IANAL, but that seems to set a dangerous precedent to our rights as Americans, especially if they're just asking for ID and you absolutely haven't committed any crimes.

The thing is, it wasn't taxing workers. It was taxing businesses. This was _not_ coming out of workers paychecks. Income tax is illegal per the WA state constitution.

Why would you put the taxes on the people instead of the businesses over $20 mil in revenue making record profits? It makes no sense. We have enough regressive taxes.

The signatures would've created a referendum to vote on it in November. Now there is no chance to vote on it. Also, the city council is voted in by the people as representatives -- it's literally how our "democracy" work

Without the backing of the people? Can you cite evidence of this? Also, why was it a terrible choice? I keep hearing this same exact argument parroted everywhere from Twitter, Facebook, to now HN.

Absolutely depressing. It sets a precedent that businesses own this city and can control everything. This was a tax of something like 0.2% on Uwajimaya and Dicks Burgers and only effected companies making $20mil+ in revenue and only impacte

I don't see that at all. It's very right wing economically and anti-labor. I'm guessing most of HN is Engineers making loads of money who don't have to think about struggling in any sense when it's a reality that 78

Why would charter schools solve anything? Serious question. Letting rich people decide where to best educate their children already happens.

I find HN fairly right wing economically & willing to dismiss that a large portion of the country isn't so well off right now, and has been steadily declining since the 90's. 78% currently live paycheck to paycheck, with this

It's not the invisible hand when the USPS loses $1.50 per shipment at the benefit of Amazon while USPS -- a federal service to all Americans -- struggles to stay afloat.

I wish I could work 20-24 hours/week. I'd be so much more productive. I'm at 65 now if I calculate in my unpaid commute. It's a total drain on life. I see China's system making it's way to USA soon, in my opini

The free market is what allows this to happen in the first place. The free market's goal is to abuse workers and push them to just near their breaking point for profits.

Google is partly an advertisement company. Google is not going to allow an ad-blocking browser to be included by default in stock Android images. Ublock has been fantastic on Firefox for me, even though Firefox isn't as good as Chrome.
