I can’t say enough good things about The Craftsman Blog. Was my primary source for learning how to rebuild my 100-year-old double-hung windows. Lots of good stuff to explore.

I feel like I’ve been looking at the same marketing slide deck for 10 years from these people. Wake me when they ship something.

Fascinating, but I really wish this work was being published as a series of papers in peer-reviewed journals. Otherwise it’s hard to take the work seriously.

I have said this a million times and I will say it again: anyone who thinks the US healthcare system isn’t a flaming train wreck hasn’t used it much. Or is rich enough enough not to care.

I get it. And to be clear, I have seen SPAs that justified their existence. I just feel very strongly that for most of the apps I use on a regular, daily basis (email, messaging, newspapers, bank, etc), SPAs are just totally unnecessary. A

OMG it feels so good to not be the lone voice in the woods. I would say about 3/4 of my frustrations as a user are from sites that should have simply been built with HTML + CSS and minimal Javascript. The front end community most days

Breaking up businesses that are “too big to fail” is good for the economy in the long run, and for defense firms is arguably an issue of national security. It seems to me an incredibly bad idea for a nation to have all of its defense eggs i

This is almost too a high a bar, but I would prefer to take a job at a place where the interview isn’t about the interviewer demonstrating how smart they are. But… that would rule out most places.

As a good friend of mine often says: We work in a field of people who envision themselves as artists, when all that is wanted are painters.

Exaaaactly. I worked on big systems at a very large retailer, and at a very large bank, and in each case, there were reasons why GraphQL worked very well for us. But 90+% of developers across the world adopt tools and technologies because t

It is incredibly disheartening to see what was born a non-profit dedicated to guiding AI towards beneficial (or at the very least neutral) ends, to predictably fall into the well-worn SV groove of progressively shittier behavior in the purs

The real issue in modern data centers is TCP. Of course at present, we need to know about these little annoyances at the application layer, but what we really need is innovation in the data center at level 4. And yes I know that many people

Agree 100%. The change in Musk’s public persona combined with his more recent business decisions are alarming. And you may say that his public persona shouldn’t matter, but when he willfully alienates a large portion of his traditional cust

It’s frustrating. The early LED bulbs I bought are still working; anything more recent has already been replaced more than once. In my fantasy world there is a government that actually advocates for consumers…

Exactly. Squeeze a few drops of energy efficiency out of consumers so that you can chalk up a win without having to try and fight the producers. Anyone care to break down the comparison of carbon reduction from this energy savings vs the ca

The 1-2 options is a big part of the problem. Government has been willfully asleep at the wheel allowing massive mergers to take place for decades. Then, oops, all of the few remaining companies are now too big to fail, so now what? This is

There seems to be a lot of skepticism in this thread, which I understand, but I really think many people here are underestimating just how much economic incentive there is to make this happen. The freight companies want this, the insurance

The optical equivalent of transistors have useful applications, but there are many shipwrecks on the shore of general-purpose optical computing, going back decades. I need more than a paper to get excited.
