Agreed. Who you are has a ton to do with how successful you are in whatever your endeavor is. He may believe he's just an average joe, but that is far from the case.

This is more of an analysis than a postmortem. Great writeup, though.

Another thing that seems to be the case is that new members are unable to become assimilated into existing culture because the entrenched users quickly become the minority and are unable to enforce cultural norms. The culture is co-opted by

Comments here seem to be missing the larger point; that being surrounded by tech all the time can be a disorienting experience. Really, this issue isn't specific only to tech circles. You can get used to your own surroundings in any jo

One thing that I really enjoyed about this article was its description of "the wisdom of crowds." Typically that phrase shrouded in marketing bullshit that just boils down to the idea that groups are always smarter than individual

This is less about the device and more about the content. Yes, they could wipe the device and start over without issue, but they would lose access to the mother's purchased content in iTunes. Some people have the income to spend hundre

There is likely no competitor. Sounds like a lie to cover up the fact that the attacker is a teenager. $300 is chump change to a real criminal, but likely seems like a fortune to a younger person.

It's very difficult to imagine an American company doing this, especially in the face of declining revenue. American corporations have a ways to go when it comes to treating employees like human beings rather than resources.

I see this as more an iteration than true innovation. It looks as though they're taking your existing Facebook content and putting it in a different wrapper. A pretty wrapper, to be sure, but in the end I think it will still be filled

It's pretty bizarre how the author applauds payola as a misunderstood champion of the underdog. It's illegal because abuse of power for monetary gain always leads to harm for the consumer.

Too often on HN, a "How My Company Did X" post doesn't include how Company actually performed X. They're typically generalized stories about platitudes. Kudos to Groove for following through with a concrete series of ste

This article brings up something I wish was discussed on HN more often. As a group, we're not very nice. HN comments are typically filled with cynicism and a jaded worldview that is incredibly off-putting.
