I'm glad the post states that Roundcube will stay an independent product. Roundcube is on a whole other level in terms of stability and robustness compared to Nextcloud. I'm also glad that the current Nextcloud client will be repl

The irony of a website for an ad-blocking extension showing it's own Ad (blocking modal for the author's side project).

It is designed to be a server application, so it'd be very difficult to offer a desktop-like app experience, that's easier to install.

Only thing missing from Vaultwarden is SSO/Oauth. There’s a PR for it that’s been open for years. I’ve lost hope that it’ll ever land.

This one: https://summit2023.matrixmeetup.de/conference/talk/AXGMEA/ Don’t think there’s a live stream. But there might be a recording afterwards.

Once more, Kudos to Arathorn/Matthew (the head of Matrix/Element) taking the time to answer most Hacker News comments, as he mostly does for all Matrix-related HN threads. It's really nice to see him answer in a calm and most

JPEG-XL is a fantastic format but it has a big marketing/naming problem. I think the the lack of popularity/adoption is in big parts due to the confusing name.

Yes, I’m aware. Yet I’m not entirely sure of the consequences: Does that mean, that dMLS and “regular” MLS could potentially still be interoperable (given they use the same Application layer protocol)?

Beware that even though Matrix is supporting MLS, currently it's incompatible with the completely decentralized character of Matrix. MLS in its current shape relies on a centralized component – which is not a part of the Matrix protoco

For me, I really enjoy how basic it is. I’ve never missed any of these things for my simple single-host scenarios.

I'm beginning to doubt whether Matrix can actually succeed. It's a great idea, and there are great people involved, but there's just so many different problems/features that it's still lacking. And the progress is p

I don't understand why this requires Vercel. This could just be hosted on GitHub pages instead.

Would be nice if this dataset was open sourced and the community could add more candidates.

Depending on the size of your site both GA or Matomo might be overkill. Both of them are huge systems. If you’re just running your private site both of them are mostly „too much“ and you’re never gonna use more than 20% of their features. T

Two M.2 slots, two slots for 5G/WiFi and 4 RAM Slots? You're aware we're talking about a 13 inch device here, right? No way this fits into the 13 chassis.

The native Sony software will only support 720p resolution. So gphoto2 still offers better resolution. "Shooting over USB" is not a requirement to use this. The camera only needs to be able to output the preview stream via USB, wh

You need to dial in the fps. It's a little bit of work to try different parameters and might not work for every camera. But with most cameras I was able to get the latency below 300ms which should work for most use cases.

Or save yourself the cost and latency of the HDMI grabber and use it via gphoto2/v4l2 if you don't mind a little command line action. https://girishjoshi.io/post/using-dslr-camera-as-webcam-on-l...

Thanks for the links! It is very interesting, but I', not sure how/if what kind of influence this has on Matrix. Just because they were born out of a shady company, doesn't invalidate the project. Heck, we're using softw

It only does a fraction of what Nextcloud does: Files and (optionally) Cloud Office (via Collabora). These two functions work very well. Reliable, fast and at a fraction of the ressource usage compared to Nextcloud. I hope OCIS will open up

I hope it will stay this way for you. Still, the project has a ton of open issues and bugs, which haven't been addressed in months or years. You will encounter them sooner or later, if you use it for longer periods of time.

Don't expect too much from Nextcloud – it will not be a 1:1 replacement for commercial services from Google, Microsoft, etc. Prepare to spend much time debugging, configuring, reading tickets, etc. If you only want files and Cloud offi
