It's also safer because the grade and turns are carefully crafted, the surface is maintained very well, and wildlife crossing is taken into consideration. You can't really say that of most US Highways.

As a downside, you get to spend 12 hours in suffocating humidity, get eaten alive by mosquitoes, watch for gators and any of the other native snakes, including the water moccasin.

Except there are already rock pythons, alligators, crocodiles, water moccasins, water bugs, fire ants, rattlesnakes, brown recluses, coyotes, wild dogs, cats, and pigs... I'm forgetting a few. Florida's natural wildlife isn't

Sorry, I thought you were replying to me, but you were replying to that other comment. I agree that the dead are spared cruelty, and this wouldn't be considered cruel.

I think that's probably it, or at the very least part of it. TD has been a well-trafficed subreddit for a long time, and that means ad revenue. Around the time of the comment-editing fiasco I remember a couple of other subreddits'

It wasn't always dead. It was caught, killed, and its brain was removed. And then its corpse was made to flail about wildly in a bowl. I find it, if even only the last part, creepy.

Usually what happens when things get regulated at the state level is that change is a lot slower to happen, and the state might have either indifference toward or opposing interest with the city. There's already kind of a Portland-vs-r

Yeah, not much we can do about WA. But that bridge is so old and has no shoulder. Any car accident means a huge slowdown. It'd be nice if we had elevated trains that didn't have to share with busses, cars, bikes, and pedestrians.

Also the MAX slows to a crawl downtown, where it shares the street with cars and busses and stops every 2-4 blocks.

Portland's transit system is OK. The MAX works well, but it has been neutered by NIMBYism: the new orange line has only a few stops in Milwaukee and goes no further. (And for that they hired three full time cops when it opened). The gr

And it means that that accountability is worth less. The argument goes the same way against big corporations - the more difficult they are to control, and it's easier to conceal corruption. A small government breeds free corporations -
