You miss a time frame if you say "2 weeks" and end up having to lockdown for 3 instead. If you say "2 weeks" and end up with lockdowns for years you are either incompetent or lying or both.

This 100 times this. It's especially weird since the whole idea of open source was that you can just fork a project if you don't like it.

Except in those situations you never weight the amount of people you lose by adding a significant level of "cultural oversight" to a project. I actively avoid projects that spend a lot of time talking about "inclusivity"

Calling something a political issue is not political but factual. I think they absolutely should host that conference, but let's not do the tired "everything is political" thing again lest we end up with the: “You talk to old

I have no idea why you are being downvoted, since political neutrality for a hotel should mean - we host everybody no matter their politics. They are doing the opposite of what they claimed to be doing.

I don't know, maybe it's an American thing, but to a person from Europe this reads like an attempt at parody. I cannot believe one can watch Seinfeld (likely one of the most benign tv shows there are) and somehow find it problemat

Just to confirm I read it right. You found that you couldn't comfortably watch Seinfeld with your girlfriend? Was that because she was uncomfortable watching it which made you uncomfortable too or you assumed that she would be offended

This is a distortion of the paradox of tolerance, it doesn't endorse censorship. The paradox of tolerance only comes into play when views start getting translated into actions. Let the Nazis march down Skokie. Action should only be

There is no law that makes people call other people by their given names too. Or law that makes people call priests "father". I don't understand how that can be so hard to fathom. You should not legislate kindness.

I can assure you that most people would not bat an eye they were asked to use a different pronoun. The problem starts when they are 1) forced to do so b) suddenly have to "disclose" their own pronouns, and you end up on a zoom cal
