This rings true to me. Most people at those levels enjoy the “perks” of high status endowed by a job. It’s part of their identity.

> they continue to pile on perks and nice to haves and pretend they’re rights. The evolution of worker rights has always followed this path. Introduced as perks, then standardized and encoded legally as rights. While there are outliers t

Seriously. Trying to keep oneself functioning after work vs just taking a nap and getting back to work, refreshed is sooo good.

Living in Kansas City is not a viable option unless you belong to certain demographics. Stop promoting it as such.

There’s only so many good managers/directors with that sort of experience. So either you have to promote from within or lower your standards a bit.

Ads have existed across mediums though, from print, to TV and now on the web. IMO they reflect a fundamental unwillingness of the general public to pay for information.

I don’t think Big Tech needs to overtax its engineers to deliver innovation. They can afford to hire enough folks to keep the innovation engine humming without requiring heroics from ICs. I understand there are some exceptions: sometimes du

This is valid criticism but … Google faces the very difficult problem of operating a really big organization. In such a place, there is bound to be hyper specialization. An L5 engineer doesn’t worry about customers because they don’t intera

Just want to add my 2c that DO tutorials are pretty damn amazing and I've got a number of them bookmarked for several common tasks. Even for such mundane tasks as wiping one's machine of stale docker containers/images. This i

It’s important to understand that the Fed has limited tools at its disposal. Congress does have the power to enact the required structural changes. However, the Fed Chair has not been very vocal about this so it always seems like the Fed is

From the article, it seems like they were made to hire BCG and listen to their recommendations. They almost surely had to have an existing system but it’s likely that the investors deemed BCGs advice more reliable.

There doesn’t have to be a good reason. Just imply that all cyclists are leftists soy sipping femboys that are wasting your tax money on wasteful bike infrastructure and you’ve got 95% of this group riled up.

This. Times have changed. It’s funny that literally every tech company’s response has been to lay off low level workers who could be re-deployed in different projects but to keep their leadership the same. Now they’re all making the same mi

IMO BigTech had the notion that for the most part you wouldn’t be laid off unless you “underperformed”. The fact that people with long tenures and good perf were still let go definitely has an impact on how these companies will be perceived

Fly over country does not have the same economic output as the big cities. It’s why most people flock to the big cities. Cities are economic powerhouses at the forefront of innovation and culture.
