At some point, someone literate enough to understand how bad Big Tech is but still promoting Big Tech should be face it. It is like smoking. People say "I know that smoking kill, I don’t want to be reminded all the time". Well, as

If the switched to 2$ a month, they might double their customer base. And still earn less money (not even counting the costs). So, sadly, it is sometimes smart to be expensive.

I’m also a paying user (and a fan) of Kagi. I’m still confused by the strategy. If you are not Google and trying to have an hegemony on the web, there’s no obvious link between a browser and a search engine. I don’t see the point from a bus

I’ve learned quite quickly that you never do any performance job without profiling. Never! Even if the optimisation looks straightforward.

You can now start accessing the raw cache with "netcache --offline". Or you can access it by hand: the cache is only made of files stored in folders.

Well, I’m the author and, as a writer, I’m very interested in global adulation. For my books. Not my software ;-)

I already do that sort of thing with grep and find in the cache folder. Managed to find many things that way. It should be said that the cache doesn’t have any versioning. When a new version is downloaded for a file, it replaces the old one

Completely. The concept of "tour" allows me to queue everything I want to read (I also have a "to_read" list, which replaced Pocket for the longest read I would do later). What is incredible is when I got to the end of m

Two years of using nearly exclusively offpunk without ever trimming the cache: 2.5G gemini 1.3G gopher 1.5G http 23G https With the exception of dynamic webpages, every single page I’ve read in those two years is there. With pictures.

I was not aware of that problem. The do_info is trivial anyway, so performance is not an issue there. But in ansicat, that might speed up significantly the HTML rendering (which is quite expensive with images transformed as ANSI strings by

Offpunk author here: the goal of "netcache" is to allow access to the cache by more tools. It would be quite easy to build a proxy like webcrystal but for any URL. Something like https://localhost:666/news.ycombina

I’ve also taken a few economic classes during my engineering degree and the math was, most of the time, trivial. But they were proud of it and applying like physics, like you said. The basic hypothesis is "people will act rationally i

Well, a good example is given by Yanis Varoufakis (which is, ironically, an economist himself) in his book "adults in the room". In this book, Varoufakis, which was Greece Finance Ministry at the time, explains how he was tasked t

I would argue that producing influential economists is what lead to disaster. ;-) (remember that an economist is someone that, if you ask him to study horses, sit down and think really hard "what would I do if I was a horse?")

Like Mastodon, Peertube should not aim to "Do everything people think will be good to get audience". It should create a philosophy. I’m quite sure that lot and lot of people are tired by all those algorithmic suggestions. People a

Same can be said of trading (unlike investing, where you hope your money will help build something). When you buy and sell stocks for a profit, it is because someone has a loss (or will have at some point).
