I set up a Wireguard tunnel into my home network years ago, before Tailscale was really a thing, and I always wonder if I should switch, but I can never make the effort worth it in my head. If I was starting all over, I'd go Tailscale

I love it. I have this whole system set up where each desktop gets its own session. So, any time I open a terminal on desktop 2, I get session 2. Then I can make all the windows I need (I very rarely split anything, but cool to be able to)

I've still never heard a satisfactory explanation for how in the hell two parts of a bone, broken such that they aren't even touching, can find their way back to each other and heal. My son broke his collar bone, and the hospital

Hit and miss. Good for North America, horrible compared to Europe. Where these are located, it's a bit of a train desert, but the bus system is pretty good. There are three lines within short walking distance, and they go to pretty goo

Near my house in Portland a 6-unit complex just went up on a lot that was vacant for at least a decade prior. Three blocks from there they are building at least twice as many units on what was an abandoned church and parking lot. Neither pr

We _need_ grid access, for now. Batteries are getting so crazy cheap. LFP is hitting the market en masse, and right behind that is sodium ion to halve the price again. And, at least where I am, grid _access_ isn't really the biggest co

I always assumed it's because 60 is a highly composite number (superior, in fact!). It's kinda the best number if you're ever going to need to divide. 50 is kinda garbage in that regard. :/

The idea is that instead of just interviewing the people right next to you, who look exactly like you and have your exact background, you make the effort to interview a diverse set of candidates. Then you try to get rid of bias in the hirin

It absolutely depends on the language and how heavily it encourages immutability. For example, Rust and Elixor allow shadowing. An awkward middle ground for me is Kotlin. It allows shadowing, but warns, so it might as well not be allowed. S

And on the whole, I prefer shadowing. I’ve never had a bug in either direction, but keeping everything immutable without shadowing means you spend all your brain power Naming Things.

Considering that, according to polling, most residents would rather live with rats than lose the parking spot per block required for proper bins, I’d say this is a huge accomplishment in the fight against rats… and car brain.
