Why is that hard to believe? We haven't kept it a secret that GitHub makes millions of dollars a year.

GitHub's first employee owns more than 1% of the company, so I'm not sure why it's unrealistic. Maybe in the world of businesses letting VC's tell them how to run their company this is the norm, but it doesn't have to be.

When did 5% of 50M stop being a lot of money? edit: I think something far more deceiving is employee #75 receiving 10k shares and the impression they're walking away with gobs of money after a big sale.

"Lunch gets delivered to the office every day at noon. We asked our former office manager to order lunch every day, because I didn't want to worry about it. I just wanted food to show up. He did it for a year before starting his own busines

Our small and medium plans are unchanged, the only price increase was for organization plans. Existing business plan customers have also been grandfathered in, they don't have to upgrade if they don't want to.

Does anyone have any experience with old media launches like this? My assumption is you don't get in the WSJ (or any widely-circulated publication for that matter) unless you have a PR company or the right connections. Is it really more tha

This is infinitely easier to support than building rubygems. Fortunately, the ecosystem that has been built around Rubygems.org is a far better solution than what we provided.

There's just so many ways to consume information these days, that physical newspapers seem to be the least effective medium at this point. I subscribe to the NYT on my Kindle and haven't looked back. They aren't doing themselves any favors

Integrating those systems directly into Fossil seems like a poor design decision. Everyone has different requirements and it directs focus away from the core responsibility of a VCS. Do one thing well and all that good stuff.

We're slowly but surely moving towards having those things either become git-backed or exportable. Wikis are first up and we're very close.

If I may quickly address Zed's concerns about putting his code on GitHub: 1. GitHub is a node on a distributed graph, you're still in full control of your source and its history thanks to Git. Push your code to a dozen different places, Git

We rode ICE from Berlin to Rostock last week and it was an absolute pleasure. It's funny (sad really) how taking trains in Europe is second nature when I'm visting, but you don't even consider it in the US.

I'd love to read about Blackboard's sales process. It's mediocre software at best, but nearly ubiquitous in US schools.

LLC conversion to C-Corp can be done (we did it), but it was certainly a headache. Letting our lawyer and CPA take care of everything but our signatures was well worth the money.
