If you cut & paste the makefile in the blogpost, you’ll discover that the blog itself has converted the tabs in the makefile to spaces. Not very helpful to any confused newbies out there!

The tabs in the makefile have been converted to spaces by the blog-posting software. The commands for implementing rules are always indented by a tab. This is a classic makefile newbie make gotcha & everyone gets bitten by it at some

That’s a problem with the mastering, not the recording format: There’s plenty of dB available in a CD to cover the full range of human hearing. Sadly you have no guarantee that a random 24/192 recording wont have the same compression &

Yes, absolutely. I do this & have done for a decade or more. But that decade probably helps - my mail server has kept the same static IP the entire time, so has a pristine spam reputation. I added SPF a couple of years ago as otherwise

Even into the 90s, my (biotech) employer at the time would advertise in New Scientist because that’s where the readership was. I agree that it wasn’t great then, but today’s NS is another level of awful.

Sure, some HFT strats are locally encoded. But that’s not the only way to make money. If what you want to do is run arbitrage between different exchanges then being faster than everyone else gives you an edge. You can take advantage of pric

They almost certainly already have servers in a DC in Frankfurt - the point is that being able to communicate current prices between the major markets faster than anyone else gives you a trading edge over other market participants.

All I know is that I mentioned Pokemon GO to my kids (it’s not out in the UK yet, so no advertising push to make them aware of it already) and they were instantly telling me that they had to have it. I can’t imagine any other brand having

It’s not as simple as that. Wikipedia says: Some cuprates have an upper critical field of about 100 tesla. However, cuprate materials are brittle ceramics which are expensive to manufacture and not easily turned into wires or other useful

No, but they can make thinks extremely awkward & almost certainly use it as leverage to exit the UK if they really want to. (Betteridge’s Law applies?)

If they get their unicode data from the same, OS supplied source that supplies the wcwidth() function (or be using wcwidth() themselves) a libc update should fix both, I think.

I got a change into Unicode 9.0 too! It was just a tweak to emoji characters to mark them all as East Asian Full Width instead of Narrow or Ambiguous so that they displayed correctly when using a fixed width font in a terminal console. This

Speed limits are not targets, they’re just legal limits. The reasonable speed to be driving along a given road might be much slower than the posted limit.

IIRC, StrongARM was about 5-10x faster than contemporary (non-DEC) ARM chips of the time, which topped out around 30-40MHz. What made BASIC blisteringly quick on it was that the BASIC interpreter that Acorn had originally written for their
