Regarding Mail, I don't really want it to change. Other than the improvements in stability and speed that I've noticed over the years, Mail.app is pretty much exactly what I want in a mail reader on OSX. Sometimes Apple's cha

Apple provides code migration support in Xcode, so when they break things it's mostly a mechanical and sometimes automatic update. I migrated our 50K lines of Swift code from Swift 1.2 to 2.x in a few hours.

I'm super excited that their first city is Boston, we could really use some competition. I'll joyfully drop Comcast if their tech pans out. Maybe 10 years ago I was also excited about a company with a similar idea that launched he

It all depends on what you're doing in a shell. For me, shell is preferable precisely because it's not a full fledged terminal. Meaning regular emacs commands work with it.

Yes, that is irritating though you can run M-x shell-resync-dirs to fix shell when it gets confused. Generally I like to have bash available so that's why I use shell instead of shell.

Basically what swhipple says. I work on long running servers and it's fantastic to run them in a shell terminal and be able to use emacs' incremental search to look through the server output for interesting log output. I have no n

My favorite thing I wish they'd told me about emacs: M-x shell Run a shell (or shells) inside emacs. Great for long running apps like servers. You can search back through the output using normal Emacs search commands. For me, one of th

Atkins may have been a fad but at least for me it actually worked (I lost 18 kg/40 lbs). Gluten-free seems to be totally without merit for those without gluten sensitivity.

Have you tried Repair Permissions from Disk Utility?

I'd try booting to recovery mode (Command+r) then go to Utilities and select Terminal. I think you should be able to reset permissions from there.

I'm referring to cases where you have to use unowned, etc, to break reference cycles. The larger the application the harder it is to find these issues.

As much as I like Swift, without real garbage collection I wouldn't want to use it an any enterprise project. Keeping track of ownership of reference counted objects shared between who knows how many other objects sounds like a nightma

First, you shouldn't hide information about corner cases and weird behavior in test cases. Do you read through test cases every time you use a new function? Neither does anyone else. Comment-less code is not a virtue. Useful comments t
