Microsoft Office is a superior experience to its OpenSource competitors, and definitely worth the cost. However OpenOffice & LibreOffice (and possibly Google Docs) are functionality equivalent, and use open source standards. This raises

Yes. And it would be better than simply adjusting for inflation too. Disposable income has an effect services, which leads more more interesting interpretations of where things are going.

Interesting, but I'd want to see the costs adjusted for inflation. Of course inflation means things cost 'more', but we get paid more as well.

This could be a good thing. If you approach your manager wanting to switch from dedicated to cloud email service, and you tell him it's for free, he's going to be suspicious. If there's a cost involved - no matter how small - it gives the p

I liked this article. imo the problem stemmed from MS not wanting to fix something. They didn't have to create a new langauge because their API was broken. They could have simply added a modern optional API binding for C++, instead of tryin

I tried to give the internet a go without ads after an upgrade. It wasn't that bad, advertisers have improved. Until I tried to watch a 10 second clip on youtube of Ace Ventura saying "yes Satan?". After a 20 second ad for a car, music star

Conflicting methodologies is a great way spur innovation by forcing the best of each to try and out do each other. This, however, isn't why Apply is successful. Employees famously hated even being on the elevator with Steve. What ever the e

Windows 8 isn't bad or good. It depends what _you_ use it for. Ads get in the way for me. Some people don't mind ads. I use computers to code, multitask and use open source software. The majority of people don't do these things, so Windows

You could give voters a receipt with the time, machine, and candidate they voted for. Checking for voter fraud would be as simple as comparing some receipts against the voter logs.

I've stopped using conditionals for anything newer than IE8. I still have to make workarounds for IE (usually by just fiddling with the CSS). IE9 is far from perfect and is still a timesink, this is time that could be spent making resources
