Genuine questio what do you mean? I find them very useful. As in they work. Are you seeing something else?

Interesting about the tech writing too. I'm not good at this. I've seen this mentioned on hacker news https://www.amazon.com/Docs-Developers-Engineers-Technical-W... I'm think I could do with reading that. As

You mean your core tech skills will be suspect if you aren't a decent project manager? Well that's a depressing thought. Though in my experience so far we have dedicated project managers. But maybe you are right.

Your poll is asking a different question. You said people expected to know this. Implying that there is a minimum level of knowledge required to participate in hacker news. Your poll is asking do they know what a TCP IP stack is. Even if 10

That's a big assumption. Who says they are expected to know this?

If you made this into a book, I'd buy it! Especially if it was structured so that each chapter had a coding exercise that built on the previous one so that by the end I had a working stack. My favourite programming book is structured l

You are saying this like it's a fact. It's just your opinion on something.

Who gets to decide if it's disrespectful? Making fun of religious practices is a god given right!

It's not. It's completely insane. No cross pollination of ideas allowed, as that is appropriation too.

I skateboarded, drank and smoked with this guy when I was about 15/16 (he was just part of our little group that skated etc, not a close friend, more just someone I knew). He was really out going, funny, confident. Whatever happened I

Did the person recover from the event? I'm genuinely interested. I knew someone who seemed to have suffered something catastrophic from regualy ecstasy use. (this was twenty years ago, I haven't seen him since). Personally I think

What does "hoarding" mean here? Amazon's value is reflected in its share price, this isn't decided by one person or entity. When someone or some entity buys or sells Amazon stock they are deciding what they think the st

Right, this is making me think I should cancel my Spotify account and get YouTube premium. Is it as good as Spotify for both podcasts and music?

I wish they'd catch the people who are covering Edinburgh's old town in graffiti. This really only started here after lock down. It's horrible. Also it seems a bit stupid to use one tag everywhere given what happens if you ge

Listening to the huberman podcast about alcohol really hit home. I knew it was bad for me, just not as bad as he explains. It's a horrific drug that most people don't even see as a drug. I am a weekend drinker and I thought that w

Ah this does make sense. I'm guessing that when the sending machine starts a new TCP connection to another machine, the reciever sees that it is a TCP message and starts a TCP "session" (I'm not sure that's correct

Thanks for this. :) So is a connection really just the maintained state in both the sender and receiver machines. What is maintained in that state? The ACK flags and the IP of the other machine?

Started reading... I'm trying to understand the difference between connectionless (datagram sockets) and persistent connection (stream sockets). The thing I've realised is that I don't understand what a connection actually is

My main gripe is lack of worthy sequels to my favourite games: Deus ex, I really tried hard to like mankind divided but I don't know why I don't. Wave race 64, even the GameCube sequel didn't capture the magic and every other

You might be on to something here. I spend more time configuring things rather than playing games (mister fpga, real hardware or emulators). I think having access to any game up to about 2004 has caused me to feel opportunity cost in playin
