I don't find this article well thought out. One, the writer presents OOP and FP as opposing paradigma's. While object oriented programming is orthogonal to functional programming. You can have a purely functional programming langu

If you want to do something really hard, try to parse PDF, that is sheer insanity.

I did this just for fun to learn a parsing library I was using. It didn't deal with utf-8 though, but even that is manageable. The complexity with csv is that it is a family of formats with small changes. But if you make your parser co

Made a small error: f n (i,j) = (i - 1)*n + j These also work for when i > n as long as j is between 1 and n.

I am on work, so can't access my home laptop. But this problem is related to pairing functions (but those work for the whole domain of the naturals). It means you need to find a function that walks the numbers in a nice way, like seen

This is pretty common for languages right? TCL and the JVM come to mind. Nice for code running in a sandboxed environment, especially if you have full control. I think python is getting more interesting lately, always found it a bit of a b

Sounds good, microsoft is building some interesting tools lately. I use visual code on the desktop for various languages, so it is a welcome to see it will be supported online through github repositories.

I am missing certificates on this list, you never have to distribute individual public keys. And you can sign certificates with an API. It is also nice to give someone temporary access, because they are valid in a time interval.

No, I run a small nifi cluster (8 nodes) on aws and it is very stable in my opinion. You need a zookeeper cluster, which is also very stable. I made the setup scalable, which is a nice feature, but you can do without it. Nifi has no problem

Do notation is jokingly called a programmable semicolon. True, it is often used to model imperative computations with it, so that is the association people have with it. Also people come mostly from imperative backgrounds and look, we can b

No, I don't think so. But it depends how you look at the article. If it is about what you can do in javascript then it doesn't make sense. But if you view it as a fun introduction to the algebraic structure of functions, where you

Neat, but I think it would have even more interesting to use church encoding for your numbers. It would have shown some of the wonderful inhabitants this seemingly simple structure can lead to :) It really is a small universe.

So, I was a bit wrong with the monoid, I meant to add them on typelevel by using a sumtype. Sorry, sometimes bit confused after work. No flattening doesn't make something a monad. Return and flattening are the interesting operations of

The error needs to be a monoid to be able to flatten the Result, if it is not, it will break, you will lose information. E.g. if you have: R<E1,R<E2,A>> -- flatten --> R<E1 + E2, A> R stands for result, E1,E2

My problem with systemd is that it is not just a init system. It goes further than that and it exposes apis that third parties use. It is tempting to use systemd functionality as developer, but then you are no longer portable to bsd, darwin
