The math is called law of large numbers. It might work well, badly or not work at all depending on the distribution and the sampling methodology. Statistics as an area is full of gotchas, I never dismiss this sort of complain unless I have

AWS' support is pretty awesome in my experience. Never would use anything ran by Google tho.

I use Edge at $JOB (because we live in Windows land and Edge integrates better with Windows stuff) and Firefox at home. I also used Chrome in the past. Whereas I agree Firefox used to be way better than IE when I first used it, I can't

amazon.com also was really profitable when AWS was launched. IDK, at this point I think we can just agree Google is bad at diversifying. The day their ad business dies, they're done.

When rpi was a new thing writing Python in it was a pain in the ass. You had to compile a lot of stuff from source, which was a huge time sink. To this day writing ARM lambdas on AWS has its own gotchas. Idk, I think their CEO has a point,

In many companies software got so specialized devs won't ever get close to infrastructure stuff. They ask for a VM or a DB to the DevOps / SRE team, wait a bit days and get a URL. If a team uses CI/CD and K8s, they will write

Since I learned that OCI images are pretty much archives with metadata, I've been thinking about applying that to other stuff. Like, it would be cool to have all my python virtualenvs saved in bundles so they could be reused by other o

IMO most of the complexity of the web comes from 2 shortcomings: 1 - It's hard to reuse HTML. Consequently, even static sites need some sort of build step. 2 - HTML needed something like htmx, so every component could be updated dynami

I use serverless for internal systems. - Small API that is used by a couple people everyday? Lambda. - Need to store some data? DynamoDB. - Need to store some files? S3. - Cron? Step Functions. - Need services to communicate with each other

I would add one more thing: K8s is complex because oci containers are complex. Running a process in isolation in Linux means dealing with many different, resource specific APIs. Unfortunately, any Linux container orchestrator will inherit t

No it wouldn't, because I infrequently need burst (bigger lambdas). As for costs, setting up billing and usage alarms on AWS is absolutely trivial. Finally, using stuff like S3 or dynamo for storage gives me a peace of mind I will neve

I have a few dozens of personal projects on AWS using APIGW, Lambda, CloudFront, Dynamo DB and S3. Their monthly cost is something between 0 and a few cents. Stuff like Hertzner is fine, but if you know your way around AWS you realize have

Really? Most of the costs for using the NGINX AMI + t2.nano come from software (0.29/hr), not EC2 (0.006/hr). That's like the worst instance you could pick to prove anything about the performance of your platform. At most you
