Well, as an anecdatum, many people think Greenspan made the housing bubble worse by trying to remove regulation, and that he did so due to his belief in Objectivism. In general, from the standpoint of someone against it, Objectivists seem t

Apple and Disney are two of the most egregious campaigning against freedom via patent and copyright law. It's not going to be a Star Trek-like future when you are only allowed to sell ships without rounded rectangle displays and only allowe

Yes, this restrictive control over the App Store is the most unfortunate thing they've developed. I would not be surprised if they tried to lock it down entirely by first changing the default security to "App Store only", and then removing

I'm really enjoying your zen-like calm. If I had to enumerate everything I disliked about their experience for developers I would be foaming at the mouth after three or four bullet points. Everything you posted is basically an understatemen

Adobe pulls this maneuver on OS X as well. Other Mac apps will try to sneak in some global software for cool effects; I've had Growl installed three of four times without my consent. Obviously the Windows installers were worse on average,

I am an Apple user, and the Apple experience has jumped off a cliff for developers. What you are talking about is the casual experience for people that don't know how to use a computer. If you don't know how to use a computer at all, Apple

You are the one doing mental gymnastics. I never said it was right to make a copy, I said it was not stealing. I am sorry that you want so badly for them to be the same, but they are in fact legally different for very good reason. I would n

Your analogy is incorrect. Making a copy/breaking DRM is not the same as stealing. Stealing deprives the original owner of a physical good, making a copy does not. That's why I wouldn't agree with you walking out of a store with a physical

Handing out data after requests is not an abuse of power, that's a failure of the data storage facility to do a bare minimum attempt to protect their users' rights. I say this because the actual abuse of power is secret Patriot Act warrants

My opinion is that if you put anything sensitive into the cloud without encrypting it, you are not doing it right. If you don't want the government reading whatever it is, why on Earth would you trust the cloud providers?

I'd love to see some sort of punitive damages if a patent you sued over gets invalidated. At a minimum, Apple should need to compensate a portion of Samsung's legal fees.
