Before deep learning (ca 2013), the SOTA was using descriptors: KAZE, SIFT, SURF, ORB etc use keypoints & descriptors based matching.[1] . Other approaches relied on shape (edge), color matching using color and shape histograms comparis

This doesn't describe what traditional CV approach this uses, presumably descriptor based ones: A-KAZE, SIFT etc. do work well for such scenarios. So both Deep learning and traditional machine vision have their place.

I am in the US and we hear such statements even from SV engineers who make wow salaries. So "enough" is in the eyes of the beholder.

"less pay" isn't something you get to define all on your own, it is a 2-way street. Programmers are already among the highest paid professions anywhere, so it's laughable that they complain about "less pay". Wh

Clawbacks of vested shares are rare, but happen when the firing is "with cause" or due to criminal activity/conviction etc. Not sure what the situation is here, but it might be headed to court.

My 2c opinion: this might have been true pre-k8s. With k8s, it's become a cinch for anyone to run a scalable system in the cloud. I think you need something more differentiated.

I think it's quixotic to compete with Google/Bing on the index size. A good bet would be to try to compete on search flexibility i.e. allowing for various ways of slicing/dicing results, recombinance etc. IMHO Search needs a

Personally, I find Evan Williams' quote a lot more insightful to identify what a "problem" is: take a process that people/organization already do, and remove a step, or make it extremely easy.

I think the author is painting with too broad a brush here, companies like Pagerduty, Datadog et al have done very well. Yeah there are many me-too businesses in this space - just like any other, and they are probably doomed. I feel the aut

I am very skeptical of the current approaches (supervised learning) making the quantum leaps being promised. This needs a paradigm shift of weakly-supervised learning and fine-tuning for specific tasks (a la human learning).
