Generally just a choice for the demo - in part because restricting the view distance means less data to download (thus lower cost to serve!). If you switch the phone to portrait you will be able to see the horizon. The library itself ( http

There are a number of global elevation datasets. Check out JAXA, EUDEM or NASADEM for example. Processing them into a usable form is another issue. For the Procedural GL JS library we use NASADEM, via the www.nasadem.xyz service, which has

Hi HN, Merry Christmas to all! I made this as a demonstration of the open data available from the Austrian government under the www.basemap.at project. The rendering engine is built on top of THREE.js and can be found here: https:/&#x

That's not a bug, it's Germany! The aerial imagery comes from the Austrian basemap.at dataset, which only covers Austria. If you use imagery that covers multiple countries this isn't an issue, but for this project I wanted to

I've read through all the docs and it is unclear if aerial imagery is supported. I just launched a JavaScript 3D mapping library ( https://github.com/felixpalmer/procedural-gl-js ) and would be up for trying it out

I recently launched an open-source 3D mapping library https://github.com/felixpalmer/procedural-gl-js/ which can be configured to display imagery tiles for 3rd party providers. However, to make 3D terrain, elevati

The camera limits are just defaults, and can be overridden. Manipulating a camera in 3D can be counterintuitive, so the defaults try to keep things manageable at the expense of flexibility. As you say, the further you can see the higher the

What a shame. I guess they got sick of people taking their code and ripping out their API subscriptions. For anyone interested in an open source mapping library (that also has 3D support) that can handle raster data (including the Mapbox ti

Gladly: - Procedural GL ( https://github.com/felixpalmer/procedural-gl-js ) is a JavaScript library for rendering 3D terrains. It is built on top of THREE.js but you don't need to know anything about 3D to use it -

Good questions. 1. Precisely because it felt like a good middle ground between the two. MIT/Apache feels like completely giving away something which doesn't seem fair, while GPL would put some people off. MPLv2 is GPL compatible s

Looks nice, great job! I've spent the last ~5 years developing a terrain engine in this space (also on top of THREE.js), that you can find here: www.procedural.eu - it supports 3D models for houses and trees and roads, and uses procedu
