My understanding is that while ZFS might be a great fit on the desktop, but it's way too RAM hungry for phones/ipads. Maybe with Apple contribution it could work better on mobile? Maybe I'm just ignorant of different tuning o

I've hit this on other filesystems and I think I ended up doing: echo "" > largefile Then you can delete your files. Not sure if it'll work on APFS.

Personally, I have a network Time Machine backup and use Backblaze. I also keep a USB drive handy and clone a bootable backup via SuperDuper periodically--especially before large changes like an OS update. I've had to dig into the nitt

I have a nightly snapshot and do the same if there's an issue. To be fair, I've only ever hit these "verification" errors when I manually mounted and mucked around with the backup and a backup started at the same time--a

That's a specific (I think over represented) use-case. When I had my first kid I considered something large. Looking around I saw people buy large cars after having their first kid and by the time they needed it (driving around friends

Within the last 5 years I know some other studios were focusing on single-player experience at ship time knowing people may only have the disk to play, for exmaple service members serving overseas.

I think it's been easy to miss a lot of Valve's recent work since they haven't been cranking out games. Here are a few things since 2013 when DOTA2 was released: * SteamOS, Steam Machine, Steam Controller, Steam Link (2015) h

I can see what you're saying in principle, but what if a bug is opened with "this stopped working for me" but evolves into a very specific issue? Should the maintainer open a new bug, link to it and close the old one? In prac

I often wish there were more direct citations in journalistic articles. I hate to say this, but often when trying to find sources it is cluttered up by news articles.

I think the two are a bit orthogonal--but do have some overlap. I recently had a job where I helped out with a bunch of sysadmin stuff. A bunch of the computers had local users and dns entries set locally. The rest of the network used NIS.
