Open source is a category of licenses. What you mean is that it is plaintext, and can be introspected. Great for many practical purposes, yes, but in business context, you are obligated to honor the actual license.

Agile is not "it's done when it's done". Agile is "it makes sense every day of the week, we should talk often".

SaaS is not a bad deal when users pay for the service directly. And Google have provided tremendous value with their free tools. People forget what it was like before Gmail and Docs. I sincerely hope we can move away from their business mod

How exactly did Scaleway give up? They keep releasing new cloud and serverless products. There's also IONOS.

There is experimental support for arbitrary executables: https://worker.graphile.org/docs/tasks#loading-executable-fi... But you can use a thin JS wrapper to make shell calls from Node. Slightly inconvenient, but works

They said 5 new customers per week so still adding twice as many as churn. Still, it's going to plateau relatively soon.

It's more than enough data for a specialized tool, yes. It's not even remotely enough data for a statistical language processor.

This comment of yours reads like chapter one. Well done, I guess? Strangely hard to turn something into fiction what we're already going through.

I always say, I don't work in my bedroom; I sleep in the office... It gets to you after a while. I'm sure dedicated space helps, and currently taking steps to find one.

Nice, simple service! Well done shipping. How do you solve for high availability? I wish hetzner would have S3-compatible object storage. Static files off of a running server gives me this weird vibe - although I should know better! It was

No, not all children die while being a child. Antinatalism (the philosophy that having kids is immoral) has nothing to do with life expectancy.

Culture has shifted, and every action is now also a political action. Especially if you have a new drug in your hand, or have a better way to get clean water. One tribe will milk the optics, the other will sabotage and rally people against

Not long ago 'how can birds fly' was a subject of fiendish complexity. Then the human race spent a few centuries studying physics. Sociology may be running in circles now (i.e. replication crisis), but imagine what it can discover

A defeatist argument. We would need a crystal ball, there's no point in even trying! I propose we create models to reduce complexity, and then make adjustments to approximate reality with increasing accuracy. If this works out in our f

Marketers use the term channel to describe a way to reach an audience: social media platforms, SEO content, content marketing, ads, podcasting, etc. Saturation is maximizing the rate with which marketers flood these channels with messages.

I think you're being misled by the specific phrasing, while underneath it's a simple product discovery technique (often referred to as jobs to be done). No selling to moms necessary.

Their "home" edition is open source and way more capable than anything I've seen for other formats. Saxonica, the company behind it, has been critical for the evolution of the XML ecosystem. I agree that lack of alternatives

Happy EcoTank user here. The colors are good (make sure to set to high quality in the print job settings). And the ink is indeed very good value, and you can refill each color separately. Giving up some speed, it can also print pretty quiet

It's more important to keep the number of features low. Good devs talk about aligning the architecture to requirements, and that sometimes includes microservices.

Isn't this putting the cart before the horse? Why force pricing tiers such that it matches an abstract principle? If you have an e.g. [x, 10x] pair of plans, and a few percent of subscribers are on the 10x, the Pareto power law still h
