I was wondering why I haven't gotten a new issue in a while. Lapham's health and age declining also doesn't help.

Windows Phone and Zune are looked back with nostalgia. As someone that had both (including a Zune HD), I don't get it either. I wish I could go tell my teenage self to get over my short-lived "anti-Apple" phase and just ask f

Classic HN comment though - adds nothing to the discussion outside of "I want to smugly have my thoughts out there". Of course, upvoted to the top.

I’ve noticed HN users in general enjoy being contrarian and argumentative. It’s a “I must be doing something smart if I’m going against the grain” attitude.

Senior titles are largely BS. I had coworkers that got a Senior title at age 26 simply by job hopping. Others had to wait till 30. The responsibilities between us were the exact same.

I don't know if it's arrogance as much as complacency and every change to the website requiring someone to work with an outdated Lisp dialect and the gross JavaScript/HTML tricks the frontend uses.

I read most of it during college and it taught me recursion and first class functions pretty well. The former helped me in my college classes and the latter in both college classes and at work. I picked up functional code faster than collea

I have one friend that got laid off Twitter in November due to Musk. He just got a job this week. I don't want to speak ill of him but he's the kind of TC/resume-maxxing type — has to work at top 10 company on "impressiv

When I got laid off in January 2023 and then created a LinkedIn, I was spammed by recruiters such that I had interviews set up within a week and a job offer by late February. I don't have an impressive resume on paper either. The only

Computer Science degrees depend on the university and department offering. I can safely say my university's program (a liberal arts school with no engineering department) was on the easier side. I generally had good grades without brea

The only regret I have is I spent ages 21-24 thinking I was too cool for "boring" tech like Django, Rails, REST, etc. I was definitely hyped on a lot of the cool tech back in 2013-17. This did not affect my career that much and I

That's when people who homebrew coffee talk about opening a coffee shop. When you open a shop, even if it's a shop about your favorite hobby, 80% of the work is unrelated to that hobby and is now about running a business.

A lot of young people are back on Facebook for Marketplace. It's the "app" a lot of people use nowadays to find cool second hand furniture.

Yep. That’s the worst part — all these startups and people’s time and effort are just a ploy by rich people to get richer.

This. “I got mine so no one else needs it”. And sorry GP but you absolutely got into MIT partly because of your ethnicity - along with your grades of course. I benefited from that as well and it was fairly clear.

I’m a white Latino and no, we don’t. Maybe on paper if someone assumes I’m mixed or Afrolatino, but I get all the privilege of being white passing. Not only that, if I’m hanging with brown Latinos they feel safer with me. I’ve often seen my

I live in NYC and I think for A to B travel, an e-bike fits the size of the city well. It's not a tiny city by any means but I can often get to/from places quicker on an e-bike than taking the train or a car. If it's nice out

SA just never got new users to replace the ones that left or grew out of the site. Younger millennials went to Reddit and other social media. The weirder ones went on 4chan.

pg would tell him to push through this, get the IPO, cash out, and then leave Reddit to become an angel investor. Plus, pg would make money off the IPO. It’s a YC company after all.
