Sprawl seems to be the norm everywhere outside of the east coast. Portland OR, Sacramento, Dallas.... The peninsula can't sprawl much, but the east bay is puking the same hideous boxy track houses on tiny lots all over the hillsides o

I wonder if I am a minority that puts a high value on the California climate? All of the cities listed are great. I lived in Portland for 3 years and loved the city, Seattle was great too. Spent time in TX and Chicago, though not years.

Just made the trek over 50 to NV last weekend and was shocked how little water was flowing in the 'rivers' in the Sierra Nevada. We (CA) are going to have to get serious about alternative water sources, as the groundwater is goin

I haven't tried any of the 'full' IDE's listed yet. I have Eclipse set up for C/C++, maybe I will give it a shot at some point. I've heard of the XCode version as well, but again, haven't tried it. That

The only way I see native making a comeback is if this Net Neutrality issue gets in the way. Even in 'native' software, the web is becoming increasingly present.

I do like Google+, but am not a regular user. Might use it more if it had more activity since I like the way it encourages networking around ideas more than networking around who I already know. I've never used Facebook for that reas

I suppose I am showing my ignorance of history, but I was rather surprised to see Netherlands listed as the hegemon antecedent to the UK. Not to dismiss the many achievements the Dutch had in finance and trade in the 16-17th centuries, but

>C/C++ were never ideal for beginners, but it was still possible to strip it down to building blocks without immediately resorting "don't worry about this now." I agree. Except during that first C lecture when readin

Just as a contrasting opinion and at risk of sounding defensive -- I'm a UCD Alum (BS in a different field) who took the lower div CSE track there. ECS10 (Intro to CS using Python) was my first formal CS class. Took it as a filler ele

Neat implementation. I've been working on something in similar spirit for a bit now and hope to have it around here on ShowHN at some point in the near future. Nice to see at least a little concept validation and support around here.

I don't think your analogy really makes sense. Allowing companies to pick and choose which content to deliver to customers already paying for access to said content is more like the post office saying "I know you paid for this ma

Not necessarily - depends on your goal in such a study. If you were looking to see the impact of age and age alone, sure that'd be tough to control for with all the added factors. However, startups don't occur in a vacuum and I

I am not a Googler, nor do I know too many, but the thing that jumps out at me is that the blog post is from 2006. A lot has changed around SV/tech since then, and even more specifically, the size, culture and focus of Google appears
