You can still use a key with the YC startup replacing keys.

Pick up phone; call people. It sounds like you need to do more customer development and work out your sales processes, but in the mean time there is no reason why you aren't devoting serious time to calling people.

I bought this functionality but have honestly never found the need for it; it kind of reminds me of the dropbox "pack rat" feature. Happy to support a great developer (in both cases, actually)

Ironically LiveJournal is a service that really struggled to monetize, I hope that isn't the case for Tumblr. Tumblr = New MySpace. Tumblr has been testing their "promote my tumblr" badges for a few months, it's only very select presently a

It isn't really bizarre other than on paper. Yes, in theory launching a rocket into space should be more expensive than hosting photos. Right up until the point you become successful at hosting photos and then suddenly hundreds of servers d

I bet the most common rejection for sensible (eg: co-founders, technical, have prototype) startup applicants to YC is "you are too determined on a terrible idea"

I really hope you haven't been carrying the YC rejection around with you for all this time (or maybe its a good thing as it makes you want to prove them wrong)

You should just apply, if you're talented enough I'm sure they'd accept you. I doubt they have an arbitrary if founder = 1 then reject.

Boxee is literally one of my most favourite startups - right up there with Dropbox etc. Boxee has changed how I consume and discover media. It is incredible.

I think there is a huge difference between a SAN and a Server OS. Specifically, I don't think Promise RAIDs do anything clever to work with XSan. (it's just a SAN with fibre?)

You're right that it was not that much different - but it was no worse or notably more expensive than HP or Dell solutions. And it ran OS X Server.

my two cents on RockMelt: why would I change browser (lots of work) for an experience. Is it 10x better at sharing or keeping me informed than my previous tools? I doubt it. (eg: j.mp bookmarklet is awesome, everyone uses tweetdeck, etc) (I

XServes are really great pieces of kit actually - equal in terms of features vs cost to any other servers + the ability to run Mac OS X. You need AFP servers because Samba share handling is so bad on Macs.
