This is something I have extremely mixed feelings about. On the one hand, HN has enabled so many of us to learn about startups, and has leveled us up in our careers in so many ways. On the other hand, HN is a bastion of toxicity, is extreme

I definitely think there's value in hosted datomic. But I was under the impression the license forbade it - did they change that?

I read the book and this was one position I found indefensible. Employees must have the ability to move companies, and any attempt to block it is bad and immoral. If an employee of any of my friends applied we would absolutely consider them

Thanks for the insight, good to have views of both. My main point was to focus on goals. There's no point arguing any of these points without a focus on what OP wants from their career.

Disclaimer: I'm a founder of an early stage startup, so I'm biased. You need to figure out what your goals are. We can't answer for you because we don't know what you want. If your goal is just money (which is fine, don&

Yes, there are cycles, but you want to draw them as DAGs because the "backlink" (the thing that loops back up to the entry point of a loop) isn't on the same footing as the rest of edges.

I've always found it incredibly challenging to layout control-flow graphs (used a lot by compilers), so nice that this exists!

I like that you can suggest new ones. This was missing both my companies so nice to be able to fix it.

I remember meeting a guy at a compiler conference who ran his compiler business. He said 90% of compiler companies had one customer paying all the bills.

I've a PhD in static analysis. I only glanced at the table of contents but it's really great. This is exactly the important stuff to cover if you're learning about static analysis, want to build a static analyzer, etc. The on

The business model is fairly easy though: sell infra. It's a lot to build, so we need a good team. We're currently 5, hiring 3 more engineers atm.

In good companies there are two career paths: - a management track - an IC (individual contributor) track There are different levels on the different tracks, and each is paid for that level. A super experienced IC will be paid more than a j

We're planning on using a similar strategy to ROP in Dark ( https://darklang.com ). My suspicion is that editor support for "happy path programming" can make a huge difference in how easy it is to write safe code.

I have no experience with Erlang sadly. I did my PhD on static analysis though, and my general opinion is that the difference between a language designed for analysis (eg via a type system), and one that isn't, is night and day.

Yes! This is basically why my new language is functional, and not OO. I bought in the OO dogma in college, but programming in functional languages is just so much easier.
