I understand why this keeps recurring, but the part I can't get my head around is how it started. Who was the first person who posted all that fake legalese? As hoaxes go, it doesn't seem funny enough to have been done for the lul

This comment was on its way to being greyed out when I came by (perhaps it was read as argumentative rather than inquisitive), but it's something that I wondered about too. Whenever I hear about terrible practices within an industry or

When I imagine this borrowing pattern repeated across every town in America, I start to wonder how this affects the economy. Does anyone know how large a share of the American financial sector all of this municipal borrowing accounts for?

To me, "laid off" means it was structural, whereas "fired" implies that the specific individual was deliberately gotten rid of. Also, I think "fired" carries a connotation of blame. You don't get laid off

I wonder if that asymmetry is part of the problem. There's a large population of users who can push junk to the top of the page, and a much smaller population with the ability to downvote it.

If anyone is unaware, I'd like to note that Udacity does not enforce a course schedule in their free courses. You can begin them at any time and traverse them at any pace you want.

I understand that there's an unseemly faddish element to the gluten free thing, but I think it's unfair to say that your acquaintances suddenly "developed" gluten problems. More likely, they just hadn't been announc

That is a shame. 90% of the criticisms I've seen of App.net were mocking it for being 'an open source twitter' and completely ignored its ambitions to encompass general social network features.

Even if we accept the operational mistakes they made, and if we also accept their questionable explanation of why it was necessary to shoot a prone man in the head... even then it's unforgivable they way they lied to the press about th

I disagree that you can avoid using these services, because I don't think that things like public schools are a service only to their direct recipients. Even families that can afford private schools for their children benefit from livi

I don't see anything wrong with that. I'm excited about all the possibilities of crowdfunding, including market validation and supplementary capital.

I think the concern is that there are crawlers that collect plaintext addresses, so typing out an address is a different level of disclosure than including it in an image.

Well, I haven't earned my downvote wings yet, but I'd wager you did yourself in with "typical apologist bullshit". They're not silencing your opinion, they're disapproving of your tone.

I'm hesitant to totally dismiss the movie, but the trailer definitely left me cold. In addition to all the problems you mentioned, I feel like they blew the "____ simplified" gimmick, which almost worked to tie the trailer together. In so

I first saw a copy of this at Powell's Technical Books in downtown Portland Oregon. Bookstores are a great place for serendipitous finds, and that one in particular is worth checking out if you ever have a chance.

I think HSAs are overrated. My biggest problem purchasing healthcare isn't that I can't scrape up the funds, it's that as an uninsured individual I'm charged a much higher price for services than the insurance companies will pay. So $1000 o

Still, I think it's too easy to to write off injury statistics as probably not that bad. So, less than 1 in 10 people hospitalized ended up loosing a limb, but I know there was a lot of talk about shrapnel taking "chunks" out of people's le

Personally, I don't really feel an anti-police sentiment on an individual level. I get that it's a hard job, and I've met some respectable officers. But collectively, the seemingly total lack of accountability drives me nuts.
