I recently stumbled upon a bunch of repos which were clearly copied from popular projects but then renamed with a random Latin name and published to npm. I reported some of them as spam, but there were hundreds of them. I couldn't figu

I used a similar scanner from Amazon for some 8mm. It mostly worked, but I ultimately decided it was a better use of my time to have the film professionally digitized. I would still love to figure out a good process to clean and upscale the

I've heard before that there's no such thing as a sugar rush. I've been careful to observe my own children's reactions to sugar. My conclusion is that it doesn't affect their behavior much during the day. However, i

To be fair, they're using it to build Super Duty trucks, which are big trucks typically used for actual work with no suitable EV alternative. So it seems more a case of using their manufacturing capacities efficiently rather than them

I always come back to this review of Paul Fussell's "Class: A Guide Through The American Status System" when I'm trying to make sense of wealth. I don't know how well it really holds up, but it did get me thinking a

I have some farm land that I lease out to a farmer for hay. Part of me imagines retiring early and living on the land. However, I checked up on it recently while the farmer was out there baling hay. It was 95 degrees and dusty. He told me h

I too had one in college, but I mostly used it to play Sim City. I did have a laptop, but it was clunky and had terrible battery life, so I was much happier with the Psion.

This brought back memories of the D.A.R.E. officer coming to my elementary classroom to give us the "don't do drugs" speech. At the end of the speech with feigning hesitation he'd pull out the drug briefcase to the cheer

People mention the spam, but the decentralized nature also makes it plain harder to use than the web. It's like the difference between Mastodon and X. Your experience was largely dependent on the server and client you happened to use.

I found a similar article from June of 2022 about the stripper index signaling a recession, so clearly it's not a very good indicator. A stripper is typically a short-term career, so it wouldn't make sense to rely on observations

Highcharts is nice. My only complaint is that the type declarations are absolutely huge--like 300k lines. It makes my IDE grind to a halt when using TypeScript. However, the typescript compiler is unfazed by it.

Half the city is within 5 miles of the airport. I've lived in places much closer and never experienced the noise before. The difference was being in the flight path. I'll also add that my perception of the distance to the airport
