Much less visual than yours though, I also made a tool to highlight the exponential effect of social distancing. Exponential growth is often counter-intuitive and lot of people don't seem to get it. https://www.spreadsim.com

I'd expect server-side JS code running on popular VM (v8, spidermonkey) to be safer than custom C++ (sandboxed vs running on the bare os). And BTW, this is why WebAssembly runtime on the server is a big deal. Being able to painlessly r

Did you actually read the blog post? Also, i'm pretty sure that such "special dvd drive" you're mentioning didn't exist back in 1999 as I remember using my Dreamcast as a reading device connected to my PC. Seems 100

Reminds me the old days of mIRC (popular IRC client back then) where you could (and still probably can) run similar scenario using mSL language ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIRC_scripting_language ) directly from the

I'm saying that, I don't see how JavaScript could crush the performance of few native API calls. It's like saying "I don't see why WebGL exists because JavaScript is slow"

The future is WebGPU. If you're interested on why a Vulkan binding for the web is not a good idea, I found this doc (from two engineers working at Google) quite interesting : https://docs.google.com/document/d/

The point of using APIs like WebGL or Vulkan is precisely to move work from the CPU (JavaScript) to the GPU. The call from JavaScript to native (the binding from v8 to C++), has itself a very low overhead

Really nice write up. I wish more microbenchmarks go that deep into IR/codegen analysis (somewhat related : https://mrale.ph/blog/2014/02/23/the-black-cat-of-microbench... ).

This is a shader, there is absolutely no JS code involved. The code runs directly on the GPU

Not exactly. The only things you need to handle are : - An old enough glibc (glibc is backward compatible) - static link as much as you can (I know this is against the unix way, but the only way to workaround most of the compatiblity issues

nidium has a markup language (XML based), a layout engine and will soon support Yoga https://facebook.github.io/yoga/ in order to bring flexbox. Also nidium focus on mobile devices.

It's not meant to support the Web. It's meant to bring app development to web developers. nidium will never be able to render regular web page.

Hey, We're French and it's indeed hard for us to get this perfectly right and focusing on the project itself at the same time. We're planning to move this to github in order to let the community help us on this.

FWIW, we're working on https://github.com/nidium/Nidium presicely to fix this. A new kind of browser engine, not based on any existing engine, allowing developers to use a subset of the web (webgl, 2d, layout) wit
