Nova means new, not "no go", unless you are actively trying to make a joke and read "no" and "va" as separate words.

No. There's right now a major dam that is feared Russia may blow up, just as it is feared that they might blow up the Nuclear power plant. If they did so, it would almost certainly cause more loss of life and damage than the NPP. Why a

The launch of the 4080s is still a ways off. I doubt any partners had designs finalized, given the rumors of how little time they are given to do that before each launch (which is a problem in its own right, and one of the things they are k

Ah, the curse of open bug tracking. Everyone is fixing bugs all the time[1], it's just that process is visible in open source apps. [1] If they're not, that's even worse.

Here's one suggestion: SQL tediously requires specifying the equality condition on joins, when 90% of the time you just want to join on the fk defined between the tables. from a join b should implicitly join on the FK if no co

> That's one reason, but not the only reason. Security is another big one in that the WebKit process is running with privileges that Apple does not want to award to any other app process on the platform, much less a third-party one.

You and the grandparents are thinking of a slightly earlier time. Yes IE jumped over Netscape massively in technical terms. Then Netscape died an MS, having mission accomplished, basically stopped touching the browser.

Exactly. Even further, without market share it means very little. You could fork and fund a parallel browser, but if it has no market share then it has no influence on the web. That's where Firefox is right now, unfortunately.

Yep, XMLHttpRequest was literally the only thing to come out of years of Microsoft tenure. Fun fact: it was added so that they could make the Outlook web interface. Edit: well, that and ActiveX, but that's not a good thing...

We don't have to speculate, we've been through this already during the IE4 to IE6 era. Microsoft just did whatever they wanted with the web "platform", and so will Google. In Microsoft's case what they wanted was n

I use Ventoy[0] for this purpose (multi boot drives). With it you only have to format the drive once. Ten you just copy .iso images to the drive as files and they become available to boot from. It's great. [0] https://www.ve

Yep, I did exactly the same. Saw the new UI, hated it, reinstalled the previous version and froze it. Still working fine. apt version tells me the good version is 1:1.1.42.622 (the most recent is 1:1.1.84.716).

Yes, I think the asymmetry is entirely due to Portuguese people being regularly exposed to Brazilian pronunciation, whereas the reverse is much rarer. In the late 80's & 90's Portugal started importing TV programs from Brazil.

This is how I learned to draw the Sierpinsky triangle, I don't even know the analytical method. I got this method from fractint[0] I think, it had great docs explaining some of the fractal types. This was sometime in the mid 90's.

This cert expiration semi-broke my home backup setup. (The backups work fine but the reporting broke, which is subtly more dangerous.) Duplicati, which is a .NET app, doesn't seem to have the latest certificates when running on Fedora.
