And we all walked right into that one... I guess "how to successfully do X" of the type of clickbait HN readers enjoy.

Go is the new Java. It runs everywhere, is easy to learn and use and people who don't get it hate it with passion. Anyway, comparing go documentation with rust docs, I'm surprised anyone can get any work done with rust.

At that point, why use assembler anyway? And how readable is that code?

Linux has been moving towards hybrid drivers for certain components for a while now. I think you can run large parts of the filesystem and network stack in user-land now.

Now the music industry will manage to kill itself by being totally incompetent and extremely greedy. 50% of the industry seems to be centred around talent show participants to make a quick buck (no need to pay for marketing). The other 50%

Actually, GAS can do full C-preprocessor via GCC. Just call your file file.S (big S). You can't really get a better macro system than that.

This is very true. Advise to new PhD candidates: take a boring idea and write the best paper you can on it. It will be 10x better received than your "great" idea.

It looks much more sane on ARM and MIPS. On x86 most people seem to use NASM for non-inline assembler.

Define wildly. The Okl4 kernel in iPhones is extremely limited in its functionality, you could probably run that code even without an Os. It could also be argued if in its current form it is really a microkernel. Furthermore, sel4 and okl4

For the record, hypervisor were introduced almost before operating systems. In the begining it was just a switch to partition memmory and run multiple jobs on a big expensive machine. So this is not the first time hypervisors are making a c

This is a fairly ignorant article by the verge and some comments here just ran with it and made it worse. Let me explain: 1. US carriers control a very small part of the global Android market. Google can still push for a better RCS and they

About a year ago I enabled apparmor with a bunch of additional rules and noticed some odd denied file read attempts. I asked around and people blamed it on some Java or pgp stuff. No idea if it's still in there, I can't see it an

The snap version has some limitations but I think that is the future. And just because we maybe can contain it, it doesn't mean libreoffice devs should be off the hook for reading private keys from my drive.

I'm not a huge fan of chisel. I decided to give it a serious chance, allocated a few weeks to learn Scala and chisel and had some test projects to try it on. In the end I gave up not really having seen the benefits of chisel over syste
