Actually, GAS can do full C-preprocessor via GCC. Just call your file file.S (big S). You can't really get a better macro system than that.

  Actually you can, C pre-processor is a toy compared with what TASM, MASM, NASM and other macro-assemblers are capable of, think Lisp macros and metaprogramming at assembly time.

    At that point, why use assembler anyway? And how readable is that code?
