I would hate to be someone teaching networking in Germany right now. This "paragraph" is throwing out the baby with the bath water.

I'm no psychologist, but I think you're correct. Nobody likes to be rejected, so the safest option is to go for people who we think are attracted to us.

Can you tell us if it's easier to find employees in Canada (particularly Toronto and Vancouver) vs the bay area? I'm also curious to know if a startup's burn rate would be lower in Canada than in the bay area.

"Hot market" seems like an understatement. I'm still waiting for salaries to catch up tho.

You're description is correct, but it's also worth mentioning that the commit dates don't change when "replaying" them. In other words, the dates of commits won't be chronological after a rebase.

I'd be interested to know if anyone felt social isolation, or culture shock, being in a foreign country.

Retail stores are optimized to make you spend the most on each visit. That's why necessities are in the back and far apart from each other. A floor plan goes against the self interest of the store.

Good question! Case-in-point, this is the exact keyboard I use to this day: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:MS_Natural_Keyboard_Pro.JP... It's ancient, but I love it!

It's a well placed double-pun. Lets not lose our sense of humor while trying to keep HN topical. If the parent-parent comment isn't appropriate, then neither would this thread be.

That's a good observation. Avoiding GPL3 software, like newer versions of bash and gcc, might have the unintended consequence of putting their users at risk.

This video raises an interesting point in regards to the law enforcement potential. It gives new meaning to "if you see something, say something". Or, "if you see something, just keep looking at it, and an agent (robot?) will be automatical

My experience has been that politics (who's friends with whom) plays a lot more into it than competence, pay, or seniority.

Maybe an acceptable compromise would be simply to indicate someone's age. It's hard for me to take a kid's advice on managing a company, vs a grizzled veteran. Then again, like with any advice online, it's caveat emptor.
