For me it is to know God and make him known. I am 50 and have been thinking like this for 30 years. It seems even more important than ever for me to know the answer to this question as I may not have another 30 years to ruminate on it furth

At our age (50) I think it's time to trim the fat where you can. Drop all the bloated software and hardware that you don't need. You may not have control over your workplace but you can simplify your own digital life. I have recen

When did anyone ever say, "He earns what? Well he deserves it". Human nature seems to take a great interest in who is being given more.

I read the bible every day and found the Chosen strange to watch at first. As in, "That's not in the bible". I really enjoyed it however when I parked the idea that it isn't a word for word retelling of the biblical text

Not understanding, "good enough". I am a hard worker. I was stressed down the years managing a busy infrastructure. I made success too much about me. If the network was a problem, I was the problem. I now work in education and rea

I think I learned to not let HAM take my Christmas holidays. I found a recurring pattern where I would tackle some difficult project during the holiday. Before I knew it the holidays were gone and I was back to work. I am starting to realis

Your work won't answer questions such as why am I here or is my life significant? If it is the measure of meaning then many people are failures who make little impact on the world. I have found meaning through religion. Belief informs

I've been working hard to simplify my digital life. I thought Win11 may mean leaving dual booting Ubuntu/Win behind. I'm just not so sure I want to invest in an eco system which will cut off decent hardware. I haven't qu

I was motivated by wsl and gui as well. In particular, not needing an x server for applications over ssh. I think I'm going to mull over staying with my linux desktop as my main os. I dual boot linux and ms at the moment.

As a few have mentioned, direct yourself towards devops. I am 50 and observed the transition from sysadmin to devops. There is a Microsoft certification pathway to devops expert. Read the 'skills measured' for the relevant courses

Make something that addresses a problem you know about based on your own experience. I am 50. I made something which solved a problem in my workplace 15 years ago. It still makes money for me. My programming skills at the time were rubbish.

Isn't it great that we can move to another linux :-) If Ubuntu forbid me to use apt or the service command (which I have been using for a very long time) I may move. I don't see this happening though. I have observed down through

As a customer I agree. I was the only person in a small local shop recently deliberating (for a few minutes with the owner) on what freezer to buy. The owner's response and tone made me feel a bit stupid. I don't shop there anymor

I am an old sysadmin. I have been thinking recently I should get rid of my server in the roofspace and migrate stuff on it to the cloud. I had to climb the ladder today and reboot it from the terminal. It was like seeing an old friend. The

I was just cogitating this morning on how the internet is also drifting towards centralised infrastructure. The mesh is becoming a star. It may be more efficient to stick a tube in my body to feed me. I am not sure this is progress however.
