Solid, solid post. For years I held to that mentality of "drop out of school, and do big things." I dropped out after 1st year of CompSci to to work at a telecom startup back in 2006. I was eventually fired and floundered for a few years.

A well-known food celebrity in Jamaica told me once that most ice-cream ads actually use mashed potatoes. I didn't know enough to ask her if that was a local or international practice.

My own amusing anecdote: I grew up in rural Jamaica, where there was no fast food, but I came to the capital city (Kingston) twice per month, where we would always eat at KFC. So I'd never had a burger before (KFC dominates every fast foo

> I couldn't get to my e-mails easily The usability of the Universal Inbox, which groups all messages and notifications, cannot be overstated. It is just so easy to glance and see all action items, and go directly from there to the app.

This is not a direct answer to your question; it's more of a commentary. To wit: The perception of RIM varies widely between the 1st world and less-developed countries. First world consumers view BlackBerries as being antiquated. And, quite

IIRC, Sub7 had a tool which did this. You could also 'pack' the executable. My infection vector of choice was embedding it into fake resumes and sending it to job ads...ahh, the memories...

Every TCP/UDP endpoint (such as a client or a server) maintains a state-table. As you might guess, it stores the state of each connection. You can view it using the 'netstat' command on Windows and Linux. Bittorrent tends to create several

It depends on your business. I'm not an Olark user, but I've been running some back of the envelope calculations. One year of the Bronze plan, at $180, is several orders of magnitude lower than my average customer lifetime value, so it'

I'm really wondering if your post is sarcasm. But I'll bite. To wit: >A real developer who loves his project would never outsource major aspects of the project. Excuse me, but that's just the 'No True Scotsman' fallacy. You don't get to

Thanks for your insightful comment. I'm glad to hear this, as I am a BB fan as well. I haven't often used the other platforms, but what I've read in online reviews, the BB is still the king of email. I literally get email faster on my bla

More than a 'behind the scenes', this is a 'under the skin' - a raw, honest tale of what it's like to do battle with the demons of failure, hoping for a god that can't be found. Awaiting Part 3.

I've always wondered if it's true, because it's a very common expression here in Jamaica. We call it "crab inna barrel" (crabs in a barrel). Another term for it is "bad mind" - to be jealous of or try to impede another's success.
