The first two CMU courses are goated. I recommend reading at least some of the papers Pavlo says to, but if I'd have to recommend a particular one it'd be "Architecture of a Database System": https://dsf.berke

You can just start taking notes, like right now. The meta-organization just pops out eventually once you grasp the subject well enough. People making it a biz are essentially cargo culting. One of those things that are not rocket science, y

I firmly believe you need a software problem / idea to go with your learning. When you run into problems fixing / making what you want, search for what might help you. Like most algorithm courses are fairly abstract form of progr

No, because I dislike videos as a source of information. They usually have absolute top tier lecture notes freely available. Like the Constructive Logic course.

It is not possible and I didn't mean to imply that. There'll be endless prereqs. most of the time. Just that if you need to understand differential equations, and you don't know calculus, the answer in this context isn't

It is not such a great idea, the dependency courses. Most prerequisites for a self-learner are kind of overblown IME. If you're applying the knowledge and / or you don't have time to go through them like a college student, yo

Insane that something like "Diversity / Inclusion" is ranked as second when there are real issues with Rust (I say, as a Rust programmer that enjoys the lang).

You might not work in context where you have to recognize these patterns out in the wild and apply the knowledge. I have friends 2 decades into programming as a profession who've never implemented any of these.

I saw the same, it was like speaking to a retarded person at the start. Honestly insulting. I think it stated that `=` "makes computer remember stuff", this is vocabulary aimed at 5 year olds.

I know many devs who abandoned the 'high quality of life' of Western Europe for higher pay elsewhere. It is really not all that glamorous to be a dev here.

Yeah I was taking into account cost of living increases and inflation when I wrote it, it's quite grim to live in Western Europe on regular dev salary :D

Recommendation algorithms are mostly garbage, I find most of it through RYM by browsing the charts / clicking on people's profiles and seeing their highly rated albums. Human curated > machine curated still.

You could reword the question to be about Rust and C/C++ and much of the same would apply. There are generic answers: - Refactoring business logic costs. That's why it doesn't happen often. - Interop between two different cod
