Last I tried to customize Edge I got held up at simple things like installing an AdBlocker. Once I got that installed, which I had to do through the Windows Store, it seemed to still load ads but not display them for multiple AdBlockers tes

I said that there is great PHP code, I've run into many projects in PHP that are extremely well written. However, I run into more PHP projects that are not. PHP is fantastically easy to get started using, it's probably the simples

Most of my hate is not directed at PHP but rather the code of the projects I run across written in PHP. It's not uncommon for there to be random whitespace and code thrown everywhere with no heed to a sensible MVC or other software arc

I don't wish to degrade any new start-up, it's hard to make it out there but this one wasn't thought out or researched. People hate pop-ups. Really really hate pop-ups. Making an entire service based on the principle of servi

If you're not using HTTPS it is trivial for anyone in the middle of the "client to server and back" connection to change any of the content. If you use HTTPS you prevent alterations to that traffic and people receive exactly

The "How It Works" page, https://letsencrypt.org/howitworks/ , has me a bit worried. Anytime I see a __magic__ solution that has you running a single command to solve all your problems I immediately become sus

Developers who do stuff like this generally do it for themselves and people who are very similar to themselves. I've released quite a few products in a similar fashion requiring people to host and install it themselves and someone alwa

I have given up trying to unsub from many places, sometimes unsubing doesn't do anything, I generally just mark it as spam now days.

Seems back up now, maybe they were just switching to CloudFlare? I didn't think HN was on CloudFlare before.

I'd love to use this service but as a freelancer who would get much more than 300 feedbacks a month the pricing schema seems completely off point and makes it impossible for me to use. I really hate companies that have tiered pricing,

As someone trying to solve the problem of Word to CMS copy/pasting, this is sadly what the majority of people do. As someone trying build build responsive websites I see people adding a bunch of spaces to center align instead of using

Looks like a great editor that is simple enough for your average user to understand. It's only problem seems to be it's "IE 10+" requirement. I understand not supporting 6 and 7, fine, not supporting 8, okay that's

Yes but VIM runs on everything, why make it Mac OS X specific when it's simplistic to make it "just use these vim files and it'll work on every computer"

It won't, it's mac os x only from the looks of it, which is kinda silly.

This is cool but it seems silly to have the default install method to be using "rake", I love vim but keep Ruby off most of my systems, what happened to good ol' fashion shell scripts.

Yep, I'm actually making one and a dockerfile for it as we speak just so that I can deploy it myself easier. I may make it public.

GitLab is a fantastic project and it is open source but that needs to stop being an excuse for how terrible an install process it has. It wouldn't be a problem or me to install it but it is a huge barrier for many people using it.

Every time I see a new GitLab release I get excited to install it. Then I see the install instructions and immediately give up. The number one thing GitLab needs is an easier way to get it setup.

I'm curious if this will be delivered as a service pack or as a new OS. It seems like they are announcing it as a new OS, I've never seen this much news over a SP before.

I had to double check the title because I thought he said Django and all the advice seemed to match my Rails experience and not my Django one, also, this may be a bit nitpicky, but Django isn't really an MVC Framework nor is it a CMS. You c

Personally I have a Pinry board that I host privately amongst my company, we all post images/inspiration for sites/ui we find around the web and it's all password protected. Copyrighted content isn't an issue cause only 4 of us ever see it.
