I gave up on React 5 years ago for this very reason (and others)...it sounds like not much has changed, and it's still a constantly changing minefield. I've had much better mileage with Vue.js - far more opinionated (which I like

I did that for a few years, and wasn't on 500k a year, but I'm also the company co-founder, so you could argue that a "specific monetary goal" was applicable.

It's non-trivial but it's also not that hard, there are well known strategies for achieving it; especially if you relax guarantees and only promise eventual consistency then it becomes fairly trivial - we do this for example and h

I guess that only matters if we're missing out on performance improvements by not using native language features; be cool to see if anyone has done any profiling/investigation on that. Clojure the language isn't missing anyth

I use Clojure, which benefits from these consistent JVM improvements; things like pattern matching have been accessible to me for years already, but I like that Java slowly trails along as it helps keep me vested in the Java ecosystem.

A lot of people cruise, even in my scale-up, there's a mentality sometimes of 'I'll get to it later' or 'meh bug, I'll fix it next week', hustle is hard to maintain. I have no doubt that there are thousand

Yes, I was going to say the same thing, his skin definitely is not that of a 20 year old (whatever) he looks pretty much like a late 40's year old. I've seen many people who actually look decades younger without all that stuff he&

Why doesn't renewing it online work? is there still a paper based component to it? I don't think I had that problem last time I renewed mine online.

Likewise. I've been through a number of startups and there are jobs that I really really dislike down to my core. My 2nd startup I did the CEO role and i hated every day of it -- I really respect those who can spend day after day in in

What state was that? I don't think we had that in NSW, or at least I never took notice of it and always just went out by myself for a walk even during the hard lock down days.

I built a home gym. Over about a month I got the following equipment: - power rack (and 1/2 squat rack) - barbells x 2 - bumper plate 200kg - dumbbells from 9kg -> 40kg - SSB - etc.. I put it all on my veranda and now it stares at m

Yes, that is quite slow. I can regularly do 10000 inserts in about 10-15 seconds, they're done in bulk though, so that might be a part of it. Also, I don't have 23 indexes, so that's probably a large reason why it's so s

Nice, had a poke around, found a small typo while reading about it Asynchronous loads are trivial with Zeidon. Simply add the “.synchronous” qualification to the activate.

When Georgia conducted a hand re-count of the ballots without using dominion machines and found it fairly consistent with the original tally (biden did drop 2000 votes but not because of count erros), doesn't that put to pasture claims

I found this warning clear enough. I think it's a good thing to include these images, we've become too used to content moderation that we're desensitized to a lot of the atrocities that are still happening daily around the wo

That's what I was thinking, seems a little odd that ray tracing can be significantly behind when both those consoles use AMD tech to implement their ray tracing capabilities.

Totally agree. We can't make everyone happy and keep the world habitable for life as we know it. The time to make tough decisions was yesterday at least this is better than tomorrow.

Not sure why you're getting downvoted, my guess is the reference to COVID. The earth is currently overpopulated for the system we have in-place to feed it. We are very inefficient in resource usage and waste over 1/2 the food we p

Yes, to me being "in it together" means suffering is shared. I said it was a nice gesture, and it is, but to me in the long run (assuming the book store doesn't go out of business) you still get your pound of flesh, you just

That's a nice gesture, but not really in it together. In it together would be rent forgiveness. The bookstore and restaurant have lost business, their customers aren't deferring payments with a gradual payback.

Agree with the OP, the website needs a designers touch, it does look dated. The general standard of websites is so much higher these days, if it looks cramped and dated I don't linger. Testimonials are too long as well.

Is no direct communication between microservices necessarily a bad thing? I've made a few similar design decisions in our tech stack, we have no "direct communication" between microservices, discounting the shared database. M
