Agree with the main thrust of this article - Excel is an amazingly successful platform for end user developed software. Once a .xls[x] has even one worksheet formula, it's a program. However, IMHO the major flaw is that there is no sep

I have seen one scenario where engineers get sales commissions: quants in investment banks. Typically in banks traders will get 3% of PnL before costs are stripped out, or 10% after costs. Traditional sector coverage sales will get a volume

There are generally accepted scientific theories that have zero predictive power. The theory of evolution is a great explanation of how we got here. But it can't predict what's next.

HR are not your friends. The clue is in the name: human resources. You are just a resource to be managed. And managed out if you become a problem. HR's main function is reducing legal exposure risk due to harassment lawsuits etc. That,

I ported a large Fortran codebase for mech eng analysis to Xenix from VMS back in the late 80s. We needed more than 640K, so DOS wouldn't do, and this was before Windows. I had to write a device driver for the 68000 based graphics card

Empiricism's contribution is the emphasis on testing hypotheses. Provando e reprovando (test and test again) as Galileo said. That approach was brought to it's finest pitch with Popper's Falsificationism. But hypotheses need

No mention of web sockets or asynchrony? Fifteen years ago I was coding against Zope. I've used Django a fair bit too. Both were heavyweight, blot-out-the-sun one-way-to-do-it. Now I use Tornado because it's lightweight, has good
