It would be cool if the "radius" automatically scaled to ensure there are not too many or too few people in the chat. This could be accomplished with a Voronoi diagram.

Volume snapshots are a better way. The only filesystems I know of that support them are ZFS, BtrFS, and HAMMER. I'm not sure if snapshots are implemented using hard links or if they are more fundamental. Another way, which is worse, is

IPv4 is not just about larger address space. It has better autoconfiguration, better multicast, better MTU, and it has a constant size header to make routing easier. Unlike IPv4, it works well with no centralized server assigning IP address

I hope it will support IPv6. The article mentions DHCP and has an example address of 1.2.3.4, but IPv4 seems like a poor choice for a new LAN protocol in 2013. Not everyone has IPv6 internet connectivity but we do all have IPv6 LAN. Apple h

A vector format is insufficient to make an image look good at all resolutions. Without hinting, lines are not aligned to pixels, making them blurry. We have solved this problem with fonts, but it is extremely complex, both for the artist an

When you project a map, there are three properties you would like to maintain: shape (aka conformality), size (aka equal-area), and direction. But you can have at most two of these properties. Mercator preserves shape and direction at the e

I use GNU Parallel. I like it because its interface is simple - input is piping filenames to it, just like xargs, and output is nicely collated to the screen. I used to use ppss, which does the core task just as well, but the interface is m
