Yeah, my point is there's a technical difference, but if the end effect is simply creating a benefit to humanity, it doesn't really seem important to distinguish between "philanthropist" and "humanitarian". So saying Gates is the biggest ph

Oh snap, sorry about that. For some reason I read that line in your original comment as "I also hope it's not another ARM Chromebook".

Isn't being ARM-based something that actually helps keep the hardware price down? I thought it was generally cheaper to go with chips like Snapdragon / Tegra / Exynos than, say, any Intel. And I also thought it actually helped with battery

What's the difference between philanthropy and humanitarianism? Just donating wealth vs developing it? Is that really a significant thing to distinguish?

I know the comment you're responding to wasn't that great, but this really isn't "objectively true." He's done a lot of good for sure, but to simply accept his contributions as "the most generous and influential" because of his fame and the

I don't see why that argument equals that strategy. It's an argument for expecting a specific price, not for waiting for a specific product or service.

According to Wikipedia, Rockefeller is widely considered to be the richest person ever, but I guess this is interesting to me because the Walton heirs themselves are still making billionaire lists. But that's a good point. I wonder what t

Whenever I see these lists I always find it interesting to think about the fact that the only reason a Walton isn't in #1 is because Sam is long gone, and his value was split between his children, all 4 of whom have $30+ billion. Kinda cra

I'm not sure about tautology or whatever (it seems like you're confusing the network for the endpoints), but I'll give you a metaphor. In the US you are a "free" citizen in an "open" country. You are free to go anywhere you want on open ro

"Free and open web" doesn't mean unfettered access to private parties' services, it means unfettered access to the internet itself. I.e. access to the services on the internet that private parties are willing to let you use.

These seem like good analogies for poorly thought out economic decisions made by governments. E.g. cars of a certain class will have a higher carbon tax, so car companies respond by popularizing cars of a different (bigger) class. (The SUV
