No, we intervened in a civil war between two groups, one that we decided was more in our interests to support. And we opened 2 markets for arms to be sold to, that would be healthy vibrant markets (for arms) for the next seventy years.

Dunno if I'd say "we won." Technically North and South Korea are still at war. And apparently MacArthur said that _after_ the Korean War. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_War

That's a pretty broad question. Answer: Things that are deadly serious in the real world are played for laughs, and obviously there's some exaggeration involved, though not as much as an outsider would think.

Which stock market is off 20%? When I look at the Dow or S & P , I see a roughly 10-12% decline from its peak value. And after 2 days of up 2%, suddenly there's a headline saying "the bulls are back."

Everybody loves strategy. It's an easy and fun fantasy to put yourself in the place of the CEO at a giant company. And it doesn't feel like science, where you have to actually study lots of math before you can have an opinion.

As a progressive (but a highly-taxed one) I'd like to see defense spending cut by 50%+ first. That's not going to happen either.

This is like saying that the decimation of the housing bubble has hurt the economy and worse. Broadcast.com is the classic example of a completely worthless business flipped to a clueless buyer.

Do you have money in a checking account? Since there still is some inflation, checking accounts pay a negative rate, after inflation. In fact its even pretty hard to find a savings account that pays > inflation rate.

Alternate viewpoint: the proliferation of guns in the US is a factor behind the militarization of the police force. If the police can argue that when they execute raids the person on the other side of the door is armed, then that can be use

The problem of excess workers will probably be solved the same way it was for horses - they'll be refashioned as cannon fodder for wars, much as horses were in WW1.

I don't think that's correct. Leisure isn't much good if it's due to unemployment and you're living at the subsistence level. What you're looking for, is "standard of living." And the part they'r
