I get it. It's a matter of perspective. As a Linux/ OpenBSD user, Mac hardware is suddenly a bit more appealing. As a Mac user, the reverse it not true. OpenBSD or Linux are no more appealing than it was before the switch. As for

I fully support this effort and the Linux port for the eventual time when Apple does eventually stop supporting this hardware. But at that point in time, I won't be relying on it for work anymore, it will be a hobby/ project, much

I know who they are quoting. I also re-listened to what he said because at the time I'd made the same assumption. Apple execs are infamously careful about how they word things. Federighi could have said they won't allow other oper

You are quoting a reddit comment which mis-interpreted what Federighi said. They didn't say they would prevent alternative operating systems from booting, only that they aren't doing it . As opposed to the fact that they are in f

No big mystery here, people who buy Macs, prefer MacOS and don't see why you'd bother with Desktop Linux in general. I'm personally interested in Linux on the Mac as a curiosity and as an alternative in case Apple ever screws

I love the Magic Keyboard and the keyboard on the new MacBook Air and I’m Ok with the Butterfly. Recently I switched to using ergo/ split keyboards though and would have trouble going back.

    > “This Keyboard is designed for the Mac” < Ships with a USB-A cord... ? Seriously? Is a simple USB-C cable that much more expensive than USB-A? Even if my MacBook shipped with USB-A or I had a mini or an iMac, I’d still prefer USB-C.

A lot of the time it's stupid things like advertising a product is glass or crystal when it's actually clear plastic. I got burned by that once. I've also seen manufacturers get burned when they put their branded merchandise

Microsoft had contracts with all of the OEMs, if an OEM wanted Microsoft's OEM pricing, they needed to pay for a Windows License with every PC they sold. Buying a PC without Windows meant buying parts and assembling it yourself. Wasn&#

A lot has changed. No thanks to Microsoft, but a lot has changed. Drivers are much better now and many large companies supply their own drivers (though frustratingly often as binaries). Some companies like Dell offer Linux specific SKUs w

I'm not sure the argument that Ti lasts longer is really valid anymore. I have 2 carbon mountain bikes that I've put thousands of miles on. Both are about 7 years old at this point. Early carbon as a bit fragile, but newer carbon

Ti is absolutely a vanity/ fashion statement at this point. Carbon out-performs it in almost every way. Particularly since you can lay up carbon in different ways to get different amounts of stiffness/ flexibility.
20. 230.▲
    by ogre_codes 6y ago

This is not true. For both road bikes and mountain bikes, Ti is a vanity product. Carbon dominates mountain bike industry at every price-point above about $3,500 right now. There are certainly a few high end ti bikes, but carbon is king and

Ti and Scandium have different ride characteristics. Scandium (and aluminum) is stiffer. Ti, like steel has a little flex to it. While I honestly doubt anyone can really feel the difference, there are plenty of people who swear they can. Th

Yeah, we've had a couple of major ice storms/ extreme snow here in the past 3 years too. It's a little disturbing when you realize they are hitting us at the expense of the North Pole.
