Wanted a Tesla so badly when I was younger. Bought an electric last year and went with Subaru because: a. I don't trust Tesla's autopilot, specifically the car's ability to accelerate. b. The subaru solterra was more comforta

Yeah downvote me more. Marx was a moron and labor doesn’t make the cost of a product. You would have to be intellectually disabled to not see that.

The fuck are you talking about. We price out labor constantly and it seems to make the economy better. Also things really can’t be priced by labor. By that logic, a 10,000ft pile of shit would be priced at the cost of labor I paid people to

That you think it is more dangerous than a nuclear weapon is so bonkers to me lol. I’ve heard this sentiment a ton and I flat out don’t get it.

Why are you cautious? Our lives don’t matter nor what we ask it. I suspect human ego has more to do with these fears than anything real or tangible. So many of us thought we were smart and it turns out we just had some small advantage in ti

Well the public is very stupid. I say this as a complete moron who is part of this public. The amount of bad opinions I’ve had is astounding. I hope AI replaces all of education so that’s my level of comfort with it. Which is to say not com

And here I thought the paid subscription to a newspaper with journalists was how I got my news. Guess it depends on what you call news too. I don’t typically think of media whores and liars as good news sources but to each their own.

That doesn’t have to be the case. It could be we come to realize that reality isn’t one geometry but many and they are just 2 of n geometries which fit together. That doesn’t seem to make sense, but that’s just the idea of cohomology from w

This is mostly fantasy. It was accepted because it worked. There was no grand cultural or religious reason. Just boring old “it works”. You can still use the algamest if you’d like to plot the paths of planets. John Conway pointed this out

Elon Musk is a fool and any argument derived from him is for fools. He just wants money. It’s not about any grand idea, that’s just a tool to manipulate an army of dorks.

I really enjoyed this and it has lots of great lessons. One small point though. I noticed this paragraph: “From a certain perspective, software is inherently designed to be modified (why else would it be called "software"?). This

That's a silly request and expectation. If the capitalist puts in the money and risk, they can do as they please, which means someone _could_ make aspects public. But, others _could_ choose not to. Then we let the market decide. I didn

Had the same thought reading this, maybe it’s because I work in OSS and write tests with changes and fix tests for fixes that weren’t caught. That adds 20-40 lines very fast alone. Guessing that is not common.
