I've heard mentions about the lightning network quite a lot in previous years, but never got what the implementation was. I get it it's "offchain transactions", but how does it relate to bitcoin, exactly? Is it "sid

Indeed, didn't think about it, but fees are a problem as well. Also, if bitcoin had to manage the throughput of VISA (or even a fraction of it, at this point), capacity issues would probably worsen dramatically. It's probably best

I don't see this happening for bitcoin, though (or maybe for online orders, which don't need to be instant). Two years ago, I got sick of banks whose services I found of lesser and lesser quality, and tried a bitcoin/VISA deb

I think the concept you're looking for is the one of catharsis [1]. Aristoteles used it to explain why theater was a good thing, when people were complaining that violence in dramas may cause violence in society. The global idea is tha

Also worth noting that they are highly popular among marketers and community managers. It does not say anything about "what they do", but I guess it says something about how well they do it :)

Thanks for letting me know. I tried to backtrace where I got that (core devs involvement) from, but it turns out the New York Agreement did indeed not include core devs: https://medium.com/@DCGco/bitcoin-scaling-agreeme

Oh, my bad, I thought your question was more about why they exist rather than who are their users. I would love to know that as well, I never bought in any fork myself. Although, the very first time I bought some cryptocurrency, it was doge

This is the result of conflicts between bitcoin actors, mainly miners and core devs. We'll probably see more of those, btw, as those conflicts are far from resolved. The core problem is scalability. Miners are very incentivized to fix

Well, this is a serious regression from 3d printing :) More seriously, this is genius. I can hardly imagine how challenging it must have been to build something that automatizes finding which parts should be glued and act as joints. This co

When I heard the word "mixed reality" for the first time two years ago, the idea was that AR was a 2d layer on top of reality (like google glasses) and that MR was actual 3d objects merged in the reality. But then, mobile apps sta

That's my intent as well: use MR to replace monitors, then progressively switch to monitor-less apps. There may be a limitation, though: resolution. If we are have 9 virtual monitors, each displaying content at 2500x1200 (random pick),
