In the 90's and aughts there was very little love for Microsoft among IT professionals. It's a little embarrassing to think about right now when you realize that Microsoft has never poisoned a river or sent thugs with billy clubs

I'm one of those people who moved to an urban area for a tech job, and yes, my presence here is a part of the problem that drives working class, local born people either out of the region or on to the streets. But I did nothing wrong.

Yes, they were. The archaeological record indicates they cremated infants instead of burying them, but there is no indication the infants were murdered. There are many cultures where infants aren't named until age two or so. When infan

Once Rome conquered Egypt, they had a monopoly on Egyptian papyrus. That's why we know a lot more about periods of Roman rule than about areas outside of the empire or provinces when Rome did not control them. Rome didn't have to

How many of these are free speech issues? Lindzen doesn't raise any. He's retired, and speaks only for himself. He's an embarrassment, but there are no issues there. Ito? No attempt has been made to silence him. Stallman isn&

That's not actually the tradeoff in my experience. If you're willing to blindly follow the suggestions given you by the compiler about references, and clone() things when it doesn't seem to work, you'll be just as produc

One issue is that today's students rely on electronic devices that are much more prone to sprouting legs when left unattended. The Athena combo and the weight of a workstation made that less of an issue in our day.

The internet was a venue for liberation back when you had to take active measures to connect to it. Nowadays you have to take active measures to disconnect. I'm not sure what to do about this.

Turbine manufacturers are predominantly Danish (Vestas), German, (Siemens), USA (GE) and Spain (Iberdrola.) I don't have much of a problem with being dependent on energy cooperation from countries that happen to be my military allies.

Take a look at European rural areas some time. 1. Commercial production of food and timber begins literally at the city line around most European cities. There's not the ring of suburban hellsscape. One one block, there's a city.

Lots of countries are polarized. Doesn't mean you can spout nonsense about the events of 2014 when two elections cycles have passed since then. That would be like starting a war with the US in 2028 because you think 2020 was stolen.
