You are so full of shit [1]. Tens of millions of people do not share data about their day to day lives. If they did, it would not even be a valuable process. Small groups of friends and family share data about their day to day lives, in a s

I downvoted you because I think that during a discussion about how people (in this case women) learn, figuring out common ways that people (in this case women) seek help is a pretty valid concern. Maybe men do similar things when they are c

That isn't a conspiracy, it's one of the major reasons that anyone open sources anything ever.

It works fine for me, too. I don't understand why anecdotes of problems are seen as interesting data points (for anyone other than the developers attempting to improve the software), especially in a community of technical people who presuma

How does a 9% job cut actually work? How do you reliably pick 30,000 people who are less valuable than others? Is it just by department? Do middle managers make arbitrary lists? Dice?

Have you ever tried to run in jeans? It sucks. Generally I do it in athletic shorts, but feel free to do what works for you. Also, by similarly irrelevant logic, flip flops should be a developer faux pas. They aren't.

My suit is very comfortable. It doesn't fall apart. I paid under $100 for an entire outfit (I paid $120 for my jeans sans t-shirt). My shoes are super comfy and I've never had to get them serviced?

> rarely-worn, extremely expensive and generally inconvenient Victorian-era ceremonial dress This annoys me. The 'dev-uniform' of t-shirt, jeans and sneakers is just as constraining as the 'business-uniform' of suits and button downs.

Where, exactly, did I make any accusation at all? I said we don't have enough evidence to make meaningful claims, which I still hold to be true.

Do you have any evidence to support them being especially ethical, or is this just a gut reaction? The facts are that we don't have enough facts, we have an unsubstantiated accusation that should be treated as such.

It's not a problem with javascript so much as a problem with the issue of knowing what code is actually running in your browser.

Livable, walkable, affordable cities are dense. That is the primary factor in whether or not you can afford to live within walking/biking/subway distance. The rich people that want to live close to work are going to get first dibs on usable

I actually don't think it's a mistake. Contra and counter are synonymous, but one is more common (as far as I can tell with brief googling). I learned something too, no need to apologise.

If you are providing a communication routing service, you MUST have information about sender* and recipient. That is not a problem with PGP encryption, it is a problem with people who wish to use public routing services like Gmail. Furtherm

Most [1] modern GC implementations use generational copying collectors. A copying GC does not need to maintain a bit for each allocated object, and therefore will not break copy-on-write. They are also much faster for many common loads. [1]

This should never be an issue. A page load should trigger page generation code (I'm not a Rails guy, but the view in traditional MVC), not some massive 10+ second operation. What you should be doing is caching that big time consuming job (I
