This is even more true if you make the d stand for debugging.

OK, I get the point about being nice, but the AA.com design is ugly. I'm sure as a giant company AA is used to criticism. There are many big companies with sites not only ugly, but unusable. For example, Rogers.com (Canada's cell phone almo

He says he doesn't have to know who used Trac in order to use it. Well, I disagree, and I'm with Joel on this one. Whether or not a project has users is one of the things I look for when picking software. More users often (but not always) m

Well, sooner or later the Internet will go the way of radio and TV: megacorps only. Once there's a critical mass of people using a medium who don't really care about it, and just consume what's available, it is only a matter of time. The qu

It's pretty good. Definitely better than Adobe's tools for code. The art still has to be made in Flash though. Unless there is some compelling reason to use Flash though, open tech (like AJAX) wins every time.

Yes, but only to an extent. Some of the boring stuff ends up being the foundation for something interesting (it just doesn't look that way at the time). Before giving up on something boring, try to find out what it's useful for, then decide

I ran a robotics design team. I learned that managing people is not trivial, and I learned it the hard way. I also learned a lot about Linux, embedded systems, and putting electronic circuits together. Another thing I learned was that I str

There's probably a way to teach almost anything using a computer. The problem is in how to present this to the kids. In school, computers are an afterthought, and aren't really part of the curriculum in any meaningful way (except those coup

I was referring to the Criticism section on the website that was linked to in the previous comment. And yes, the author claims that Africa's problems "are caused by development".

His response to the criticism is not very well thought out, but takes an amazingly popular viewpoint. Namely, that life used to be so much better in the "olden days". Just because believing this makes many people feel warm and fuzzy on the

My mom was also a homemaker while my brother and I were kids. And being a homemaker it is definitely not a free ride. Neither is it an occupation which you can do half-heartedly. And I'm not arguing with you, by the way. There was just some

I'd argue that saying "I'm free" and then continuing with "I've been doing lots of house-sitting" and "find a partner who will support you" isn't exactly something to be proud of.

His advice makes sense, but only if you believe what he believes, namely that it's ok to mooch off others, and call that "dropping out". Now, the article explicitly bashes self-sufficiency, so I guess it's just a matter of which viewpoint y

I don't know how many people do this (invent word forms), but I definitely do. Here's a sample: freak out > froke out > froken out the plural of house is obviously hice , and toothbrush becomes teethbrush . Of course, I have
