The machine-translated Russian version is pretty bad :) I can help you with a proper translation if you want.

Yes, but the BW version needs a touch-up. It looks like it has a sad face.

This is really strange. None of the browsers on my machine can access this URL. But dig _why.usesthis.com returns the correct info. According to Wikipedia, the use of underscores in hostnames is illegal, but many implementations igno

This is exactly how we ended up with things like ActiveX and Flash in the first place. It's not enough to make things just work today. Mozilla is right to be thinking about what happens a few years down the road. Mozilla has enough market s

Hmmm. I think this depends on your DNS provider. This link is broken for me: I think my ISP does not like hostnames starting with underscores.

Why X.org? Even if you ignore the fact that it is an XFree86 fork, there are plenty of Linux systems with no X at all. In fact, that would be most of them, since there are certainly more Linux servers than desktops out there. Now add the em

Sony advertised Linux support on the older PS3 (the new slim model removed this feature). But even then there was no access to the GPU (Sony was afraid people would make homebrew games). This made is impossible to get even things like video

Did you enter that same email as your domain contact info? Because in that case, it is in the WHOIS databases in plain text, and yes, it is trivial for any spambot to harvest. The same holds for any registrar though. The only way to avoid h

Even open-source software has a potential problem in some countries. For example, while OSS is often received free of charge, the government can argue that the user still got an item of value. So they have to pay taxes on this "gift".

This is a good point. I think many people here have at least thought of a startup, and often a startup idea is to solve some problem they are facing, or a way to make something better. So the natural way of thinking about customer service i

This is what I meant. These developer tools aren't really aimed at developers (most of whom would probably pick a tool with a nice tutorial over the one with a quote request form). So it doesn't really matter if most hackers would hate this

To me, a quote request form says the company isn't really serious about this whole Internet thing :) I associate it with a site someone put up in 1995 and hasn't touched since. Probably just me. But, in this case this may actually be a win,

There are many ways a site can be hacked. This could range from a silly error in one of your PHP scripts, to some other software on the server being vulnerable. Often sites are hacked by automated bots rather than an actual person. Which me

"Hire Stars and Let Them Do Their Magic" is a poor choice of title for the paragraph that follows. "Stars" might imply "people with long resumes". But the actual point is about people who work well as a team, and not hiring "brilliant jerks

I'd still say adding just one feature to an already working client is less work than writing one from the ground up. It's easy to think you can just grab a library to do IMAP. But what about attachments? Encodings? HTML mail? Storage? Searc

You have to have the source of what you are trying to learn. If it's a web framework - sure, you can download the source and work on a Windows machine. But you need to realize you are learning about a different system, and one you have the

Lots of cheapo electronics aren't properly RF shielded, and will pick up radio transmissions. I once had a pair of speakers that came with a PC as a "free bonus". Those things could be used as a radio (except for only one station).
