This wouldn't encompass everything that's been discussed here and in TFA, but perhaps the UI decisions were made to help discourage usage while driving? The mobile-like interface, the far positioning and small buttons make it diff

Sometimes it's hard for apathy to completely disappear when you're one emergency away from financial ruin. A 2nd year teacher in the US doesn't make that much, but the amount of youth lives impacted can be a huge net positive

This is a little short sighted. Small businesses only have so much room for expansion. In the same way that the person from GP's comment got their own truck, an employee could also save for their truck. My first programming job was a p

1.) Be attractive. 2.) Don't be unattractive. Seriously, find a community and dive in. Doesn't matter if it's virtual or facilitates IRL meetups. Reddit is always a good place to start. Lots of those subs have Discord servers

I get that you're streaming yourself to a person, but how does that help enforce accountability? Part of my job entails very little typing or keyboard interaction, so comparatively, it could look like I was reading HN, Reddit, etc. Is

Thank you. This is what a ton of other comments are missing. I've had to occasionally go to our main corporate office. If I rent a car from the airport, it's about 18 minutes from airport parking lot to door. Taking public transit

Definitely fun, but also slightly nerve-racking. A new project, script, or proof of concept left entirely up to you. The canvas is completely blank. Your initial code will probably be the seed for whatever this is for months or years to com

Wait what? I thought f(x) = 1 / x is continuous iff x != 0 since 1/0 == undefined.

Maybe I missed this, but where do politics play a role in this idea? I could see if these were gov't run/funded places, but these could thrive alone via private business just as many restaurants do. Both parties could exist alongs

Iff the answer to paywalls (and not site access) is CAPTCHA, then I would have been game. Problem is that I'm still not going to disable uBlock due to the poor practices of ad companies destroying web usability.

Well now I feel stupid. We use Slack at work, but it's not our official communication channel. I've never needed to block or mute individuals. I didn't know that it couldn't be done.

How is Slack any different than any other instant messaging application? Hangouts, Jabber, Discord, Rocket Chat, and even WebEx or GoToMeeting - you can disable notifications, completely ignore, or even sign out of all of these applications

It seems like it comes down to intent. If Samsung has released a prototype device (could be the exact same device but labeled as prototype), then people are likely to be more forgiving. There is a certain level of expectation that a prototy

There are also two other things at play. Media hype over small scientific announcements that need more study[0], and misrepresentation of scientific findings by researchers or their sponsoring party (e.g. a university's PR department).

Wouldn't that be up to the device manufacturer and in the case of the app themselves, the app devs? Samsung has TouchWiz and LG has (I think it's called) Home. There are 3rd party launchers available to download that will use a sm

Yes! This was an odd read (in a good way), and I definitely enjoyed. No cruft. No BS. No "one weird trick" hooks. Just a person stumbling into a business opportunity and taking a shot in the dark. Kudos.

It's really hard to tell when someone is asking a good faith question and when someone is trolling. I try to put my faith in humanity. Granted it also helps that your posting history indicates that you're not a typical troll.

If a black person name's their son Tyrone, there's nothing wrong with that. It's a normal, human name. If someone walks up to a black guy that they've never met before and says, "Sup Tyrone?" that's racist

Politeness restricts the issue to one lane without making it worse for everyone else. You and all of your lane mates suffer, but everyone gets to get to their destination at a normal time.
